Nido has another year of control. As a ML catcher Amaya isn't worth $700 let alone $700k. Nobody's claiming Amaya so no need to hold a spot in the 40 for him.

I thought Nido was a FA after this year. That he signed a 2 year deal with Mets in 2023 for $1.8M each season.
There aren't a lot of great options in free agency to get a guy who is career .240+ BA. Diaz has been a solid hitter over career. Or take a flyer on older guys like McCann or Grandal and hope they have a couple good years and can bring Ballesteros along.

I'm at the point I dont want them to get on a hot streak like they did last year and give the FO a reason to stick with the status quo or even think about buying. If they aren't happening already they should be in talks to sell off some pieces by the deadline.

If colleges can buy out head coaches for millions of dollars, I think the billionaire owners of the Cubs could easily swallow the money they're paying CC if it came to that. And it just might, it's seems clear that he's a poor fit for the Cubs.

I would hope the FO & CC know the roster needs a reboot in 2024. But also feel the FO has to slow play the trade deadline to see what happens over the next 3 weeks. There are a lot of teams in both leagues that are in same boat as Cubs. I don't expect much trade activity over next 3 weeks. But could be crazy July 25-31.
Just my $0.02 but the solution to the CC/FO issue is you let CC decide who is going to makeup the FO so they can get guys that fit what CC wants. Make it where they work together and if it clearly isn’t a fit, you clean house again in 3-4 years
