Auto insurance deductible and limits

I figure we pay around $4,000 for car and home insurance for a year with State Farm (also have an umbrella policy). Three vehicles all less than 5 years old all at $250 deduct. If Son had his car stolen, which was found, they paid all repairs for it. Deracho back in 2020 I dealt with one adjuster and they covered my deductible. Multiple car, multiple policy, good student, etc. so getting a bunch of discounts. I’m happy with them.
Ummm... that is illegal. You are contractually obligated to pay your deductible.

Granted, I have no knowledge of your claim and what happened, but no vendor, body shop, contractor or adjuster is permitted to cover your deductible. Count yourself lucky, I guess. Whatever your deductible was, it's money that stayed in your pocket.

Not Iowa but …

State Farm is asking for a home insurance rate increase in California.

This week, State Farm General filed a request for a 30% increase for homeowners, 52% for renters and 36% for condo owners, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

California is a whole different insurance world out there.... their dept of commerce had (maybe still does) a moratorium on raising home rates. Insurance carriers out there are really hurting out there because of it. Many have simply left the state. They need to let insurance companies raise rates out there or it will be a total disaster.

I will video my hail damaged truck with an online State Farm person and the adjuster for the House is coming out Sunday, to look at my hailed on roof. Less than a week after the event. 46 years with State Farm home and auto. I had one bad experience with them, (it was with the agent and didn't cost me a dime). I just switched agents. My brain wont let me squeeze every penny out of shopping for insurance. I compare and am willing to pay $200-$300 more a year to keep getting what I have.
BINGO!!

Out of my 6 carriers in California. I no longer write in California. I don't have one company that will write a policy in California right now.

Be careful with Allstate. We purchased a home that happened to get hail damage before we took possession. Previous owners had Allstate. 3 different roofers all said the roof needed replaced and Allstate would only cover patches. All 3 roofers said that Allstate was the worst at getting damage fixed.
yep when we made a claim with allcrap on the wifes SUV after a deer hit they absolutely sucked. took forever for them to respond to the body shop with their excuse was because it's not in our network and they don't use our app. Told the body shop they had to order certain parts as used (turned out to be the wrong style headlights even). The body shop on the other hand is well regarded locally and had basically an open door policy on the whole process, I could walk in and see the vehicle and paperwork on their end when ever I asked, the local allcrap agent would get mad and say well you don't need to be involved or asking about it.

The dealer I bought my car from will cover any insurance repair deductible if I use their body shop.

We have bundled our auto, home, and umbrella with Country Financial. No problems with them, but are there better insurers I should be shopping with?

That's who we are with now, though haven't had to make a claim or anything yet.

100/300/100 is no longer sufficient.

Industry standard is 250/500/250 at this point.

If you've got anything less than a $500 deductible, you're throwing money away.

What does 100/300/100 even mean. Not joking

With climate change, yes the climate is changing, and costs of repairs and houses keep going up, insurance will also go up. Raise your deductible and set the money aside for it.

This is what I am doing. Our homeowners insurance where I live went up $650. I’m shopping around and to lower costs, I am increasing our deductible to decrease our premium. My thought is that if I have money to pay for it, I shouldn’t be insuring it. I can afford a 5k deductible.

For reference, I live in the Northeast.

$100,000 per person for bodily injury
$300,000 per accident for bodily injury
$100,000 per accident for property damage

Those are the limits your policy will pay if you are at fault in an auto accident

Progressive is super aggressive right now. Depending on your situation my recommendation is grabbing more coverage with a slightly higher deductible

Just got my annual premium notice from Auto Owners. It increased $1098.00. That's crazy. Homeowners and vehicle combined.

Hope you have an umbrella over those limits. 100/300 sounds like alot but its not in todays medical and legal climate

Consider me super jealous. I've been back and forth with state farm since March 31, 2023 trying to get everything covered on our house from a hail storm. I've gotten 5 checks so far and we still aren't there yet. They just keep throwing me crumbs hoping I'll go away.

I am with Nationwide and have been for nearly 25 years. 3 claims in last 5 years, Derecho, Deer hit, and a parking lot incident. (BTW, Parking lot incidents suck ass, it was clearly the other parties fault, a teenage girl blew through a stop sign, yet police will never assign fault and the insurance companies just dig their heels in and each party pays.) Renewal just came up on my Umbrella and it jumped big time. Overall for home, lake house, 3 cars, boat and umbrella...approximatel 30% overall increase this year. Also my deductible on Windstorm or Hail just went from a flat $1K to 1% of the home value.
Unfortunately in the process of claim #4 for our lake house at Okoboji as the sewar backed up just last weekend due to all of the flooding up in NW Iowa and I am in the process of replacing the furnace, hot water heater, washer, dryer, and dehumidifier. :puke:
