Completely agree. Curbs should be installed to maintain lane integrity. If the sign says to be in the right lane to go straight, be in the right lane to start people.
Problem is some are built so small that changing lanes between "exits" is impractical.
Most of the time they are just used as a form of speed bump, to slow traffic down.

When they build a Roundabout in the same space a 4way stop fits, they never work right. If you notice most of the ones everyone loves in Europe are WAY bigger than most of the ones they build here.

Ok grandma
Dude I have had to go to driving school.

Why, because I was going in Excess of 30MPH over.

I have ridden motorcycles in excess of 190Mph on highways, cars close to 170Mph.

Know what, I never complained about tickets, because every time, I deserved them.

Know what I learned? Cruise control is my friend.

Those are pretty crazy extremes and things that I have personally never come anywhere close to doing so spare me any lectures. Also, cities of under 20k are only going to be able to issue warnings if they are using "mobile" automated traffic cameras like those placed on trailers or vehicles on the side of the road. Cities of 20k or less are still able to issue tickets from stationary cameras so CC can continue to issue BS tickets for "violations" of 11 mph or greater. I can guarantee you that no city with speed cameras is interested in just issuing warnings because warnings don't create revenue. Won't affect me going forward anyway as I know exactly where all 4 cameras in town are positioned so I know exactly when I have to slow down and exactly when I can speed up. They can just continue to nail out-of-towners passing through.

Yep. Some of the local news have been reporting "towns under 20k cant use speed cameras" erroneously. Its not that hard to read the new law.

Or maybe the speed limit needs to be raised. I noticed recently while driving in California that their speed limits are a lot more aggressive. Places like 86th street in Johnston, which are set at 35, were 50mph in California. There were a couple times where I looked down and was going 5 mph under, which I don't think has happened in my lifetime in Iowa.
In Minneapolis they are going in the other direction. They passed an ordinance that the standard low limit is 20 rather than 25, so streets that were 25 before are now 20. That includes all unmarked residential streets as well so it is a big change.

I think there are actually three full time cops now in a town of ~1200 which is a bit excessive. The issues is where the cameras are set up, there is almost no pedestrian traffic and I have not heard of a single accident in these locations before the cameras. If they set these up closer to the middle of town where pedestrians actually walk and there are other cars pulling out of businesses more frequently then I think they would make more sense. Now there would be significantly less people going 40 through a 25 in the middle of town so it really wouldn’t help with the bottom line.
Isn't the swimming pool still down that way? There used to be a pool on the south end of town and an ice cream stand on the other side of the highway so the opportunity for kids on foot and bikes to be crossing often. I'm pretty sure the ice cream place is gone; is the pool still there?

LOL, If you noticed I also said every time I got a speeding ticket it was deserved. I got a few warnings when I really deserved a ticket probably too. I also said I dont cry every time I have gotten a ticket, because I knew I was in the wrong. No one is lecturing you on speeding, do what you want, but quit crying about it when you get caught.

I realize some people have a hard time accepting responsibility and fault in their actions, something that seems to get worse every day. Iowa does have the most Narcissists per capita in the country, according to a post I saw recently.

Like I said if you dont want to get caught by speeding cams, STOP SPEEDING by them, its not that hard.

Every day on a local 4 lane, in a section it drops to 55, I lower my cruise to 62, and people constantly fly past. This section is under extra scrutiny because of regular serious accidents at multiple at grade intersections, hence the reason they reduced the speed. It is very regular the state patrol plane is flying above, and/or multiple police from multiple agencies are posted there. Yet people still speed well in excess of 10 over, then they cry about it on social media, when they get caught, even when they know that area is being heavily patrolled. This is the reason my city wants to install cams there, because people refuse to slow down, no matter what they do. So...if people want to supplement my cities infrastructure because they are too stupid to slow down in front of a cam or area heavily patrolled, then so be it.

This is the only argument against cameras IMO. To be able to rack up multiple violations before you are notified of the first violation is a problem. They need to have some sort of instant notification of the violation. Maybe some sort of light or message screen.
When Cedar Rapids put up their cameras, it was all over the news. It was impossible to miss the fact there were now cameras tracking your speed on 380, and you’d get nabbed if you were 12 over. There was a grace period, too, so people could sort of get used to them being there and adjust their habits.

The daughter of a co-worker of mine absolutely freaked out a couple of weeks later when she received a batch of tickets in the mail. Apparently she zipped through there after the cameras were turned on, nothing happened, so she just kept zooming through at 70+ mph multiple times. She was really displeased when she realized she got a ticket for every one of those trips.

Holy crap dude. I was talking about going 42 mph in a 30 mph zone and you tell stories of you trying to break the sound barrier and yet you continue to try to lecture me. Yeah, you probably shouldn't complain about getting tickets for going 175 mph so you don't get points for that. Now, you should probably just sit this out as you are getting crushed.

We have speed trap vans all over the place here. I get speeding tickets in the mail all the time from these things, and those tickets go straight in the trash.

When it takes a picture of a person's plate, a very bright flash goes off. I'm just waiting until it temporarily blinds someone and causes an accident and they get sued.

do they take pictures of every car or just speeding ones? Because they'd probably just say the crash is due to the person speeding.

Haha, I have a friend whose dad had a detached retina several years ago. When it happened he saw a bright flash from it. Fast forward a few years, he was driving in Arizona and saw the same bright flash. Drove himself straight to the ER. He ended up with an ER bill and a ticket for the speed camera that flashed as it took his picture.

Testifying
I have a feeling semi drivers, snow plows, people with campers, trailers would not like roundabouts with interior lane curbs.

LOL never got a ticket going 175. I got 1 ticket for going 30 over (which requires 1 day driving school). And 2 for 10 over, and not for many years. And those were all many years apart.

You know why, 1) I grew up, 2) I learned my lesson, and 3) learned how to avoid said tickets, by not speeding in particular areas, and mostly by using cruise whenever possible and never setting it for more than 8MPH over.

But I never cried about any of them, every time I was speeding and I owned it.

You were speeding, you got caught, get over it.

Dumb ass, I got a few WARNINGS during the grace period of the new cameras in CC which carried no fines and I will never get an actual ticket from them as I know exactly where the cameras are so they will never collect a single dollar from me. I have had a driver's license for almost 40 years and I have received like 5 speeding tickets in all those years and all of them were for 15 mph or less over the limit. I haven't been forced to going to driving school like you so I don't need any of your stupid advice regarding driving or anything else. If you are one of those people that just HAS to have the last word no matter how dumb you sound then have at it as I'm done responding to you.

Dude don't sweat it. Not on your driving record or on a credit report so just throw it in the trash. Who cares what a few self-righteous posters think.

LOL well you got me beat. Almost just as long and only 3 tickets. :otz:

You also should look into what driving school is..its a joke.

But it sounds like you must be a little older than me... Im also guessing you have never ridden a bike capable of 190+ nor driven a car capable of 170+, on track or off.

You seem nice. You like calling people names to win arguments, grandma, dumb ass etc. :mccaffery: Great strategy. But then dont like it when they respond.

So you got a WARNING and are still crying about it. :prohm: Get over yourself, and just slow down. Accept it you were going 13 over in a 30, regardless of how "close" you were to the 45 sign.

Peace out!

42 in a 30 is almost 1.5 X the speed the engineers came up with to determine a safe speed.

Beyond the limit posted that's likely not a safe speed vs. the conditions or hazards present.
