Iowa State Uniform Discussions (update: new basketball unis)

I think a lot of colleges must have been tripping balls in the 90s when it came to uniform design. Not only those weird “double M” Gopher jerseys, but remember these awesome Hawkeye duds?

80s may have been the decade of economic greed and excess, but style-wise the 90s was unsurpassed in rebellion against the notion of "less is more".

Anyone remember those starter jackets every kid had? They were so busy!

They should have came with a warning for visually-induced seizures.

I know the joke is that Nike has about 6 templates all the schools can pick from but these days I think we might be down to 2 templates and in addition schools can either pick stripes on pants or no stripes.
And Minny’s - like Baylor’s - are better than ours.

Pant stripes look great. Sigh..

Helmet stripe(s) too. Almost like a complete/comprehensive designed uniform!

That is what sucks we got a "generic" uni that somehow missed some of the parts that make it work. Our shoulder stripes are weird so that's different I guess?

They Make Starter Jackets again, started making them a year or so ago, I think I might have even seen them in the Bookstore.

Watching some of the NCAA Baseball tourney and Nike does a great job with many of those teams' unis IMO (e.g. today's FSU/UConn game) with multiple scripts and templates. But the selection and variety from them for FB is embarrassing.

...and yet they can't get MLB uniforms right.

I thought Fanatics was in charge of MLB uniforms.

Further... those look like Nike logos to me

Less individuality, for sure.

And it shouldn't be. It's not that hard to design some unique changes in FB uniform templates. A few little changes in the setup and cutting, stitching and zoom, zoom

Yeah, and that is a challenge with potential new MBB unis as well. The new Nike ones from last season on other teams looked generic as hell. ISU might as well keep their existing ones if the new options are limited and look bad.
Nothing could be worse than the MBB uniforms that we have now. My friends and I cannot believe we have not dumped them

For continuity, I'll post these here.

To start, adopt two alt logos, 1) some form of the '80's Cyclone/Orrnado. [I have 2 mods of Cyclone/Orrnado here. It is too good of a logo and makes too much sense, not use it.] 2) re-adopt the "Cyclones" cursive logo. It is perfect. Both clearly define who we are, Cyclones!

Here is @amestoplease work, about 10 years ago now (?), depicting the original '80's Cyclone/Orrnado, and his modification, for comparison.
ISU Logos11 7 OldAndNewUpdated amestopleaseGood1IntermediateSize.jpgI also posted two similar posts of this, here, on the logo thread.

After adopting the Cyclone/Orrnado, and the cursive "Cyclones" as alt logos, adopt Walking and Leaning Cy. The last post had 2 mods of Walking Cy (use them both, Happy Cy, and Angry Cy). Leaning Cy requires no mod. "He" is perfect. Here he is, bottom right in first image, from @Kagavi, and his work.

And just the face of Leaning Cy, on another of Kagavi's work, here.

Here is my progression of Walking 'Happy' Cy here. Notice the mod around his face, eyes and neck. He now matches Leaning Cy! [I like Walking Cy best with his boots. I do have images of both Walking Cy's sans boots, if anyone is interested.]

We could have so much fun with just these alt logos. There are others, as well.

I appreciate Nike & teams going more traditional, but it's getting more laughable each time a team reveals new uniforms with sleeve stripes
