Not quite what most people think of when they think of EVs...

But about a month and a half ago I got I got an electric pedal assist bike. I'm loving it so far. This week I'll probably hit my 200th mile on it, with the majority of that coming from commutes, then a few leisure rides and some errand trips making up the rest.

Obviously an electric bike doesn't make sense for a lot of people. But for me, living in Ames and working on campus with a ~2.5 mile commute, it's just about perfect.

Wonder if that is a NIO. They can be recharged via plug-in or NIO has built swap stations- which takes less than 10 minutes.
Hmm, I was told the Chinese are producing EVs but not actually selling any. The cars produced are all sitting in fields rusting

Talk me into or out of any of these I'm considering or convince me on something comparable that's not a Tesla. Probably AWD version of most of them unless it's a significantly better deal without.

Honda Prologue
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Chevy Equinox EV (don't think available yet)
Chevy Blazer EV
Ford Mach E
-----
Toyota Rav4 Prime
Hyundai Tucson PHEV

Love how Rivian R2 is looking but don't think I can wait that long, maybe next car.

I don't have any experience with those cars, I do like the videos these guys put out generally. https://www.youtube.com/@TFLEV/videos

I kind of like Edmunds long term tests as well.

I haven't driven any of these so I'm not sure, but another one I'd consider is the Kia EV9.

I believe the Prologue and Blazer have the same architecture. All the reviews seem positive.

As far as the bottom 2, I'm not playing around with those in between choices. They are good for a lot of people, not for me. The RAV4 is the safest choice on this list by far.

I have a friend that has owned the Mach E for probably 18 months. He's happy with it but he's jealous of the Tesla software.

Kia EV9 looks intriguing at the price point https://www.kia.com/us/en/ev9

I'm extremely close on putting in an order on an R2. That price point is ridiculous especially if the tax credit is still in effect.

Looks like Honda Prologue this weekend. Took forever to get decent deal among all the dealers within 50miles.

I definitely get the appeal of the Tesla shopping/buying process. The other manufacturers should take note.

One thing I hate about many of these if not all is no spare tire at all.

my last two, soon to be 3, have not an it stresses me out when I'm far from civilization. You got me curious about Rivian and Cybertruck. Cybertruck doesn't have one at all but Rivian has a compressed tire, shocked it can be recompressed and reused:

I had a flat tire in a Prius out in the woods with no cell, I had bought a tire plug kit and all that in case it was more than their spray crap could handle. It turned out okay, but I ended up pulling the trigger on a Garmin inreach that I wanted anyways. Had to pay to replace the flat kit, like $60-$80. Compressed tire is something, wonder what the weight penalty is on it.

Wait, can’t do it with only 5 seats. At that time, I’d have a 16 year old, a 14 year old, and a 9 year old. Them sitting 3 wide in the back would be a recipe for disaster.

I was snooping around my neighbor’s EV9 and it’s like a full size van in there with an suv-ish shell.
