MSG Sphere Las Vegas

On my last trip to Vegas, I went to the Sphere Experience which is essentially a 45 minute movie. Its still expensive, but I would recommend it. If you have plans to go to a concert, then don't bother.

Before attending, I didn't realize that (1) your seat can vibrate (2) there are fans that blow air to add to the experience of what you are seeing on the screen.

Phish played a 4 night run at the Sphere in April. The visuals were insane.

That's pretty amazing. I can only imagine how many would be like me and have bad vertigo kick in.

Vertigo was U2. This is Dead and Company.

But I am surprised that you could see the screen with how much smoke must have been at the Dead and Company show. Or maybe their preference would be psychedelics?

Wait, are we not supposed to have drugs before the family events?

This isn't good. Most of the reviews I've seen from people that have gone to it is that they loved the experience but if this business model keeps up it won't last long it appears.

Show me the balance sheet before I pass judgement.

Literally screenshots in the article.

Like I said a year ago, this is a money pit. It'll keep surviving in some capacity because Vegas does Vegas things but it's just not sustainable.

They just announced it's gonna cost $80M+ to convert Wizard of Oz to this screen. That's almost 100 completely sold out shows at $50 a piece just to break even.

It's one of the coolest things ever so if you get the chance, go to a show or whatever you want while they're still lighting money on fire.

The screenshots are the income statement.

Depends on your definition of good. Could be very good if you want to buy a giant sphere videoscreens at a bankruptcy auction. Hey JP, maybe CyTown could use a focal point?

Seriously though, I'm no accountant but even if building it was a giant disaster, I can't imagine that it wouldn't make sense to keep using it as a venue after the initial fixed costs are taken care of one way or the other through making the money back or selling it off in bankruptcy.

The screenshot in the article doesn't really show the entire picture. Looking at the full financial statements shows depreciation for the year at $256 million. So back out the non-cash item depreciation and they show net income. Also, looking at the Cash Flow Statement shows they had positive cash flows for the year.

So imo the article is misleading.
