Court Storming

They are making way too much drama over this. Especially Bilas calling for everyone to be arrested next time.

What we need is a good old fashioned 80s LA Lakers vs Celtics fans brawl!

How do they keep NBA/NFL/MLB fans off the field? Fans used to come out on the field after a big win or a big play. They clearly did something to stop that

This whole thing is stupid. IT.IS.NOT.A.PROBLEM.

Can anyone tell me how many players have been injured in court storming incidents over the last 100 years?

I can't remember hardly anything at all before this Duke one the other day. CC's doesn't really count... she was 50% responsible for hers.... had she just walked off with her teammates she would have been fine. When you sprint all out in the opposite direction that hundreds of students are sprinting right at you... that spells disaster.

All these game announcers and analysts have been saying forever when these court storms happen that this is what makes college basketball so great... and that you don't see that kind of excitement in the NBA.... and that includes Jay Bilas. Now a Duke player gets hurt in a freak situation... and Bilas is furious and everyone needs arrested now!

These people can't have it both ways. The Duke students have probably stormed more courts over the years than anyone... but now it's shameful because a Duke player got hurt? Give me a break. Accidents happen.
Probably the same number as in the past 5 years.

Fines and/or jail time
I think it's more of a culture thing than the risk of fines/spending the night in jail.

I think a lot of people don't rush the field/court at pro events because it's just not what you do. Even those who don't do it due to the risk of fines/jail time are only that way because they know no one is following them. But if hundreds (for indoor events) or thousands (for outdoor events) of people decided to rush the court/field, they'd be fine. The police are not going to arrest hundreds or thousands of people, the prosecutors aren't going to want to deal with it, and the teams aren't going to want to ban all the people doing it.

If you think court storming should go away, arrests and tickets aren't the way to do it. Because court storming is part of the culture and practically you're not going to be able to arrest/fine/ban most of the people that participate

Very extreme.

Iowa State has figured out how to keep players safe during court storms after the Randy thing. Pretty sure if we can figure it out, any other university can as well. I'm no where near banning court storms, but there are ways to prevent things like this from happening in the future, and like usual, Iowa State is paving the way.

Brilliant Jay, no one could possibly see what problems might arise from a handful of cops trying to detain thousands of college kids in the middle of a basketball court.

A Duke player bumped a knee, chill out folks.

When I was in college, you made sure to avoid the other players and were semi respectful to them. If you did get too close they could put out an elbow and floor you to protect themselves. No one was recording with a phone.

Now it seems that the court rushers almost come across as it’s their right to do it because they are there and opposing players be damned. Also, in some of the old court/field rushes you can see the players barely move to let the initial wave through and then they just walk away on the back side after about 10 seconds of the initial rush. Now it appears some players will just fight through the initial rush and that is where problems happen.

Bilas went on Pardon My Take and made a complete a** of himself talking about this. It's clear he has a biased opinion as a former Duke player, which is expected, but he fails to recognize. What he doesn't understand is the extra crowd they get for the Duke game don't normally pay attention to basketball and are there solely for the experience like its a party, take away the court storming and the party isn't as fun.

Listening to several radio shows yesterday, Bilas was mocked across the board. Basically said he was acting like an overreacting ‘get off my lawn’ old man.

"The Randy thing," which was Randy deciding to try to cut across the court (where he shouldn't have been in the first place) instead of taking the clear (and correct) pathway in between the arena circle and courtside seats.

Jay Bilas is an unwavering supporter of athletes. If there is something potentially endangering athletes, it should stop. I can't remember which game I was watching that ended in a court storm but the home team had security ready and managed to cordon off half the court and the handshake line. It made it easy for the visiting team to escape and the home team could join the fans if they wanted to.

Good Glad to hear he was mocked. He has a horrible over reaction to the whole thing and wants it out of the game. It can be done safely

How does his acting job compare to CC's? Who wins the Oscar for best fake injury from a court storming?
I give it to Filipowski. He was borderline crying while his teammates carried him off the floor. He really committed to the performance.

Both deserved razzies, but Clark's was waaaay worse IMO. She had to seek out someone. At least Filipowski had a crowd sprinting all around him.

Or, at least it looked like they were sprinting compared to his 90 year-old shuffle.
