***2023-24 Mens College Basketball Thread***

Iowa got its first quad 1 win yesterday. You are saw today why Iowa hasn’t had many opportunities in the Big 10.

Funniest interview Dolph had was with Frans son after a game this past week. Frans son said you have to be be prepared for every game “because the Big 10 is the best conference in America.“ He corrected himself and said “arguably the best conference.”

Not sure who's further from their glory days - Nebraska in football or Indiana in basketball.

It's similar. Indiana went to the national title game (5ish seed) in early 2000s and Nebraska football got broke at the same time.

IU really hadn't been dominant since the early 90s.

I don't know why Illinois is so highly regarded. They have one good win (beat #11 FAU by 9 on a neutral floor), lost to every other non-con opponent with a pulse, and have a bad loss (lost at home to a very mid Maryland team by 9). In four games against other Big 10 teams with a pulse, they lost to Purdue, split with a mid Michigan State team (three-point win at home, eight-point loss on the road), and lost by five at Northwestern.

What am I missing?

The loss that I think is going to hurt Iowa State the most in the seedings is to Virginia Tech.

How Purdue was the top overall seed when the bracket was released yesterday is beyond me. Then they come out and do this. Everyone knows Purdue is a fraud. Edey is just huge, that’s it. Their guards are meh as always.
I don't know anybody outside of the B1G echo chamber that doesn't think UCONN should be top overall seed. With the exception of the committee who put that together yesterday.

I'd be surprised if the VT loss is a big factor. It was Quad 1 for a while when they got hot and is still a pretty-high Quad 2, they are #63 in NET today. Outside of Purdue, UConn, and Houston, all the other contenders have similar losses or worse.

Arizona and UNC both have a Quad 2 loss and a Quad 3 loss
The SEC teams all each have a Quad 2 loss

In Midwest region competition, Illinois has a Quad 2 loss (and very few good wins), Marquette has a Quad 2 loss, and Creighton has three Quad 2 losses.

I haven't looked up what all those one-loss cases are but doubtful ours is appreciably worse than most.
