That is a CLASSIC quote my friend. It's colder than a Kelvin Sampson post game press conference!
I was surprised how well mine started.Plugging my truck in is a matter of habit. A habit I forgot yesterday for the first time. Guess farm chores wait a couple hours longer.
Chore pickup fired up. Daughter car was slow starting. Was concerned. She’s heading back today so I’m making sure everything is firing up.I was surprised how well mine started.
Pull the battery and go buy her a new one. It won’t get better.Chore pickup fired up. Daughter car was slow starting. Was concerned. She’s heading back today so I’m making sure everything is firing up.
It started fine you could just tell it had to work through the stiff oil. The pickup was the same way. Sitting in -15 degrees outside for a day isn’t positive. Only thing that would improve the starting is a block heater, and that’s not an option at her apartment.Pull the battery and go buy her a new one. It won’t get better.
It’s not terrible outside currently
This time of year the sun really does make a bit of a difference.
No, it's because of the thick oil and degraded battery performance at extreme temps. New battery isn't likely needed unless its 4-6 years old. Changed the oil once in an unheated garage at -20 and I couldn't get the oil to come out of the bottle. It was like jello and would come out in pieces with each squeeze.Pull the battery and go buy her a new one. It won’t get better.
Quite the ringing endorsement of the weather!!It’s not terrible outside currently
-4,800 density altitude….I don’t think that’s on the performance charts.
I hope EVERYONE is being careful moving snow. I know to many guys who have had heart attacks moving snow.
Actually, the exact opposite. Cold air is denser (heat / warm air rises).Ummm, a translation for non avionic people, I'm guessing thin air?

First part you are on the right track. Due to the increased density it vastly improves performance as there is more air density to lift.Actually, the exact opposite. Cold air is denser (heat / warm air rises), and these extreme temps really reduce the lift of an airplane wing due to increased drag coefficients in this dense, cold air. Engine performance (efficiency) is also affected, creating a double-whammy.
These snow storms in central Iowa are going to be a debacle for at least a couple of weeks. Not really going to warmup for melting. I saw around Jan 23/24 there is rain forecasted with high temps around 38. Can't wait....
FYI, I like to run outside, even in winter. This is all going to cramp my style some.
10 inches is way too much for the back doorI need some of this to melt because if we get another 10 inches I won't be able to get out my back door.
