Most likely nails. Attics gets cold enough to condense the wood and it pushes the nails out a little.

Its the interaction between structural components as their moisture content changes due to temperature. The "nails" thing is a misnomer, as if that were the case, your house would eventually fall apart from nails coming out.
Yeah but what if they go back in when it’s really hot outside so it cancels out?

I wouldn't describe the noises I heard like that. But that could be an issue since we didn't really have a deep frost level before this cold snap.
0 degrees in the goat barn. I need to inject some heat in there for them. I think I am going to blast in my kerosene heater for like 3 minutes. Should get it up to 50 degrees pretty quick.
Yeah. When you don’t need to ask whether that’s in C or F cause they’re the same. That’s where I acknowledge it’s pretty cold and I should go down and worship my furnace for all that it provides.

I saw postings elsewhere that certain parts of Canada were seeing -50 to -58 air temps. That's just....crazy.
