***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

2021 i think.

Its definitely seemed like they've been more likely to close down for poor weather the last decade vs back in the 00s. There were several days I can remember they probably should have closed.

I distinctly remember the weather person saying it was dangerous for exposed skin over 15 minutes, roommate and I joked the walk to Design may be the end. Eyelashes froze together.

The snow here is pretty wet. Iowa getting the same wet, heavy stuff?

Spent an hour on the business end of a shovel today before a neighbor came over and finished it off. Saved me about another 1/2 I'm guessing
That wet snow was Tuesday in Iowa.
Dry and fluffy today.

Giving up?
With the wind blowing like it is, it would basically be just wasting gas.

Yeah I didn't say it's enforced haha.

I may hsve stopped a couple of grass fires last summer because of people being so conditioned to just burning everything while it was super dry.
Ask how my mom burnt down the garage at our Chicago suburban house back in the fall of '79? Burn barrel.

I regret not taking a few swipes throughout the day. I may have avoided a broken implement if I had.

Maybe? I mean, the longer it goes without plowing, the more snow gets added to the amount that's being packed down onto the road as there will still be some driving.

Which will be a real mess when the temps drop sub-zero and icemelt won't work.

I'm a little worried about this. Worked from home, but stayed busy, so didn't go over the driveway. Didn't feel like it after dark. Hoping our residential side street doesn't get plowed until I can get out there in the morning. That end of driveway will be hard as a rock!

To think this is normal winter weather for months on end in a large geographical area of the world. In fact, better than normal.

Well thought about moving nephew and nieces BB game, but everyone's other weekends are booked. So I think we are going to give it a go tomorrow. Ames at noon baby!
Ah, didn’t realize this one was the big deal game! Hope it works and everyone stays safe.

I was an undergrad when they closed in the 90s for the first time in about 50 years. I'm still shocked every time it happens, but good call.
1994 right around this time? In HS, we had finals, and then a five day weekend. (MLK, Teachers' In-Service, Day Where Windchill Would Hit -40) That was a pretty brutal winter when it came to temps in the Midwest.

Should just delay the semester start until the week after, for any students still have yet to return to Ames, no need to come back this weekend to allow all the clean up from the Blizzard.
