Good question. I have strong memories of pulling kids stuck in snow banks back in 03/04, and still having class/lab.
Think the time I'm thinking was this one. Strikingly similar pattern with 1 and 2 to now

Iowa State announces second straight day of class cancellations due to extreme cold
Iowa State canceled in-person classes Monday and Tuesday morning on account of the extreme cold weather gripping much of the U.S. this week.www.amestrib.com
Its definitely seemed like they've been more likely to close down for poor weather the last decade vs back in the 00s. There were several days I can remember they probably should have closed.
Not fully.Did you know about your SO's sorted past before proposing?
That wet snow was Tuesday in Iowa. The snow here is pretty wet. Iowa getting the same wet, heavy stuff?
Spent an hour on the business end of a shovel today before a neighbor came over and finished it off. Saved me about another 1/2 I'm guessing
With the wind blowing like it is, it would basically be just wasting gas.Giving up?
Ask how my mom burnt down the garage at our Chicago suburban house back in the fall of '79? Burn barrel.Yeah I didn't say it's enforced haha.
I may hsve stopped a couple of grass fires last summer because of people being so conditioned to just burning everything while it was super dry.
I regret not taking a few swipes throughout the day. I may have avoided a broken implement if I had. With the wind blowing like it is, it would basically be just wasting gas.

Is the skid loader a nice one with heated cab, door, and windshield wiper? Ours is open station not much enjoyment in that.I regret not taking a few swipes throughout the day. I may have avoided a broken implement if I had.
Yes I'm almost certain rural Iowa folk follow that law.![]()
I'm a little worried about this. Worked from home, but stayed busy, so didn't go over the driveway. Didn't feel like it after dark. Hoping our residential side street doesn't get plowed until I can get out there in the morning. That end of driveway will be hard as a rock!Maybe? I mean, the longer it goes without plowing, the more snow gets added to the amount that's being packed down onto the road as there will still be some driving.
Which will be a real mess when the temps drop sub-zero and icemelt won't work.
The same charter service and type of plane OSU is supposed to arrive on just landed in DSM... https://flightaware.com/live/flight/id/HWA3012-1705088459-sw-786p
Holy crap.
There are reasons I don't live in Canada. To think this is normal winter weather for months on end in a large geographical area of the world. In fact, better than normal.
Ah, didn’t realize this one was the big deal game! Hope it works and everyone stays safe.Well thought about moving nephew and nieces BB game, but everyone's other weekends are booked. So I think we are going to give it a go tomorrow. Ames at noon baby!
1994 right around this time? In HS, we had finals, and then a five day weekend. (MLK, Teachers' In-Service, Day Where Windchill Would Hit -40) That was a pretty brutal winter when it came to temps in the Midwest.I was an undergrad when they closed in the 90s for the first time in about 50 years. I'm still shocked every time it happens, but good call.
