That was a great win last night, no doubt, but I do think Houston is WAY overrated. They haven't beaten anyone this year at all. Haven't beaten a ranked team yet.

As Fran said last night... Sampson told him that their offense starts as soon as someone throws a shot up on the rim on their team. So basically... someone throw a shot up, and then everyone else just crash the boards and knock down anyway in your way! And hopefully you get a tip in or a putback. That is their offense. That isn't going to work against all these great Big 12 teams I don't think.

I do think they are a decent team, probably top 15 or 20, but not #2.

As I said... it was a great win... but they are going to have at least a handful of losses this season IMO.

They are sort of handicapped like ISU has been the last 2 years with a shaky offense. That might get you by in the AAC......not so much in the Big 12 as fans of ISU know. They have a sketchy game on offense it's going to be a battle.

Plus like I have said before, I think everyone underestimates just how much Marcus Sasser meant to Houston.

So they'll probably have 5 losses? You realize that kind of record in the Big 12 is easily #1 seed?

I think they'll get more than 4 more losses.

You think they'll be ranked in the top 4 at the end of the year? That's basically about where you have to be to get a 1 seed.

Probably close, I think they'll be a 2 seed and Kansas will be a 1. I think they'll go 13-5 in the Big 12.

They have multiple guys who have been with the program for 2 or 3 years now and have deep tournament runs. I feel like you are downplaying them.

Don't get me wrong... I hope they run the table... makes our win last night that much better.

I just think they are a bit overrated at this point. Don't really have a good win on their resume. The Big 12 will give them a lot of chances for good wins though. Will be interesting for sure.

Agreed, but they are also 4-1 in Q1 games. They don't have any high end wins but a few over teams ranked in the 30s.

Our 3-point shooting is significantly better than last year. We're not great but we have four guys that the defense has to go out and guard. That allows us to run our offense more effectively.
Respectfully, I do not believe it is. I think we are actually just as 'bad' of a 3-point shooting team as any of TJ's teams.

Thus far this year against 'high major' teams, we're 35 - 120 for 29% - with the 2 "best" shooting nights being DePaul and Iowa. In 2 Big 12 games, we're 6 - 31.

The numbers against bad competition have REALLY skewed the metrics; against "decent" to good (to great) defenses, our offense simply has not run smoothly or consistently, thus far this year.

Houston is NOT overrated. They have size, length, strength, athleticism, skill, playmakers, elite defense and good coaching. Iowa State is good enough to beat elite level teams in Hilton. Houston will be just fine in the Big 12.

That is a lot of "ifs", we both know that this team will not play defense like that every night, nor will they get the line 10 more than their opponent does on a given night. We played well last night, but we still have to shoot better from distance to continue to win games, especially on the road.

Agree that we need to hit more threes but don’t agree that we won’t play defense like that every night.

I don't hope they run they table. No, not gonna say that. They are good. We'll see how good soon enough.

I hope they go back to mediocrity, or worse. We've got enough good teams in the Big 12.

Watch the first two minutes here with Sampson postgame. I realize his team just lost a tough close game and he's disappointed but wow what an ass****:

I did like the "nothing's changed" comment when asked about the atmosphere, and also expressed admiration for the fans. Along with a Tinsley reference.
