***2023-24 College Football Thread***

For 95% of fans AND the talking heads and reporters, the bowl game is probably the only thing they remember about the team. Especially for all but the bluest of blue bloods.

Best to destroy the opponent and have their last memory be "they were pretty good weren't they?"

No two games/weeks are alike for most if not all teams in the season but let's expect a win to carry momentum for 8 months.

I don’t trust any QB that had a significant WR advantage over opponents in college. I know that there are some that end up being successful, but it just seems that guys that needed to throw WRs open and had to go through progressions have so much more success in the NFL. When USC (and Williams) were successful, the USC WRs were running free. If they weren’t, USC struggled.

And their defense sucked.

Is there any talk of changing the rules about push plays?

It seems to be a central part of Rutgers offense at least in this game.

I'm not sure I have any problem with it, but anytime you see the game changing you wonder if they'll change a rule.

Years back it seemed like Oklahoma always had some QB that feasted on heaving the ball downfield to WRs who outclassed the defensive backs. Not Mayfield, more the decade or two before him.

2 things I want to see changed or banned in football:
  • Tush push
  • offensive team fumbles into end zone and loses possession even when the other team does not recover it either.

Wow, Miami just ran backwards like 40 yards on a fumbled reverse and the play was correctly called incomplete because it was a forward flip.

If it had stood I think it would have been the biggest negative play I've seen in my life.

I think Rutgers in this game is the first time where I've seen a team in "Tush Push Is Our Game Plan" mode.

I think it feels kind of like a cheat to push a guy in the backfield or on the line of scrimmage, maybe less so when it's downfield.

I think the NFL is talking about changing this rule about the touchback and it should be changed. college should follow.

Miami gets the onside kick they needed and then completely pisses it down their leg with those four plays. They had two timeouts and 25 seconds, and they are running 4 yard outs. WTF was that?

Side note the Pop Tarts Bowl trophy is everything it should be. Not taking itself seriously the bowl game has two toaster slots on top of the football where you can put pop tarts in it. That's fantastic.

Agree. Not a fan of the tush push or any play where teammates aid the ball carrier. I haven't seen any injuries as a result of push. But feel potential is bigger on 8-10 yards runs by QB/Back and runner gets held up and then teammate comes flying in to aid runner.

My other pet peeve is all the personal foul penalties. The over/under on fights/confrontations before bowl games might be 50 percent. Also waaaay too many personal fouls!!!. Feel like football needs to borrow a page from NHL and if a player gets personal foul it is yardage plus offending player sits current and a couple ensuing possessions.

I would be curious if analysis supports there are more personal fouls (maybe exclude targeting) in 2023 vs. 2018 (or another year). Is it harder for coaches to discipline players today, because players have option to transfer out or are now making money?

Holy Hannah K State looks like men vs boys with NC St. Physically, I mean -- taller, heavier

Giddens was faster, bigger, and a foot taller than the guy chasing him there. And he ran out of a couple tackles as well on that drive.

Seeing NCSt offense on the field now, it's not as glaring a difference.

EMAW looks jacked up for this game.

And Kirk is watching that taking notes. That’ll be Iowa’s game plan next year. I think that’s an offense Deacon Hill could actually run.
