5 years ago today ISU vs WVU

This game was the first time I'd noticed a Heacock defense just demoralizing an offense. That, combined with the crowd, made it look like WVU's offense did not want to be on that field

While it was exciting watching in real time, I was baffled at how long Grier held on with some of those sacks, including the safety. Almost like he froze under the pressure.

I remember Will Grier being on the Heisman shortlist before ISU humbled WVU. He still finished fourth that year. WVU had some wild games with a high-scoring 1 point win over UT, but back-to-back high scoring losses to OSU and OU to end the regular season.

I watched this game in a bar in DC. The guy I was working with bet against ISU. There was also a WV fan with his GF too. I got so many dirty looks lol.

That belongs to TCU '17 in my mind.

I think there's a bit of both.

2017 OU\TCU was when the campbell era really 'arrived'.
2018 was when it really hit in terms of our home atmosphere and having a big time environment. We'd had the SEZ improvements for a couple years at that point, but thanks to the end of the Rhoads era hadn't really had the chance for it to see its full potential. Conference night games are also going to really maximize that potential, and we didn't have many of those in 2017 (just the Bugle game vs Texas). WVU in 2018 was, I believe, our first night game after the program 'arrived'

OU win was a spark. TCU game backed up that things were changing a great way

October 2017 was by far the best month ever in Iowa State athletics. It was obviously bookended by the two big wins. But I think we also beat a pretty solid tech team that month.

One of my favorite games I’ve attended. The first time JTS lit up during Juicy Wiggle too. Was one of the first people to storm the field and got right next to Hakeem.

Yup. A real workmanlike performance where we got a lead early, and then kinda screwed around on offense in the 2nd half. Tech started to make it a little tight, and then Marcel Spears had a huge pick 6 that sealed it.

Featured a wacky uniform combo too.

Got a little concerning in the 4th, but that Spears pick 6 was an incredible dagger. We'd really been in control most of the game.

Going back and watching old Purdy highlights made me realize a 3 things. 1, he was a very good QB. 2. Damn there were some silly turnovers, and 3, Holy **** there are a TON of similarities to Purdys game and Rocco's
