The problem, is this would be just like the B1G East and West, or the B12 North and South.
One division will usually end up being more difficult.
No matter what you do some schools will have harder and some will have easier schedules.
You will always have that, some say pods, dont, some say protected rivalries dont, but in the end no matter what you do, you are always going to have different level of difficulties in everyones schedules.
Why is home/road every 4 years important. Why not on a 5 year cycle for a couple teams?
I would much rather have fans able to attend more road games and establish rivals on a 2 yr home/road cycle.
All Years: KU, KSU, CU, OSU
Yr1- @ASU, BYU, @TCU, UC, @WVU
Yr2- UA, @UU, UH, @BU, UCF
Yr3- @TT, ASU, @BYU, TCU, @UC
Yr4- WVU, @UA, UU, @UH, BU

Based on the above, even with 4 protected rivals, ISU plays:
- 4 teams annually
- 9 teams home/road on a 4 year cycle
- 2 teams home/road on a 5 year cycle
- Most years hosts a Texas and Utah or Arizona team
- Most years travels to a Texas and Utah or Arizona team.
Why do so many want divisions? Why not go with something similar to what the B1G had planned when it was at 16 teams before adding Oregon and Washington, every team playing every other team at least 2 times every 4 years. Seems like divisions or pods would result in exactly what the B1G was dealing with where some programs go many years without playing others.
With 16 teams and pods, you do exactly that, play everyone twice in 4 years, and play 3 teams every year.
wont be out west. it will have to be a hoops power that moves the needle. nova, uconn--not many others out there.
I don't follow this thread very often, just popped in briefly. Both of these sound good. I guess all of this will get sorted out fairly soon, before next school year. Good job.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if Iowa get exactly what they want, those 3 protected rivals of their choice.
So why do pods? I know Iowa will play the same 3 "rivals" every year, so it's not unlike being in a scheduling pod, but the rest of the B1G only has 2 or 1 annual rival games. What's the upside of the pods instead of just going divisionless with some protected rivals?
Winner. 18,000 in the building every night. Resources aren't a question and it's easy travel for anyone plus there are no football concerns like there definitely are all UConn and at Nova to a lesser degree.
There aren't any. Pods/divisions make absolutely no sense for a league that is going to have to maximize their best teams playing each other.

LOL, you cant just schedule by whose the best to make money or best games etc.
Everyone will have to play everyone, at some point. I mean it is still a conference after all. And you are not going to make something like UU vs WVU a protected game even if that becomes the best teams/game. Protected games if done right, are still going to be regional, and traditional rivals, regardless of "maximizing" the best teams playing each other.
I just think for 16 teams, and maybe 20 pods work very well.
16 teams it is a very simple scheduling set up and everyone plays everyone every other year.
With 20 teams every 3 years.
I dont think protected rivalries are a bad option either. I just dont think that system is always the best, depending on how many teams in the conference and how many rivals you are protecting. etc.
There are good plans and bad ones in both systems. I do think once we go beyond 20 teams things get much harder to schedule everyone with any regularity, and may require something else.

Creighton would make more sense. Not that it matters this wont happen with the Zags anyway.
I think the Zags are on hold until the ACC thing gets figured out. The ACC conference may go the way of PAC12 in 4-6 years. If that is the case, the BIG12 should keep the Zag decision on ice. However, adding the Zags may entice Duke and Virginia to join the BIG12 later down the road. No need to rush any decisions.
