I think this really underestimates how poor facilities and support was at the competition too for Kansas St, Oklahoma St, Kansas and others back then. Just a totally different time and I think Campbell would have been just fine and Bruce would have done well now.
When Earle Bruce was the coach I think the football weight room was the lower level of State Gym

I didn't engage in any "fire Campbell" threads following the Ohio U game, but I'm tired of hearing the "better than any previous coach here" rhetoric. He's not a better coach than Earle Bruce, who went 8-3 when the Big 8 was arguably the best football conference in the land. Had Earle Bruce not been snagged by Ohio State, I believe he would have established ISU as a solid football program.
I'm also sick of the fans who advocate for having low expectations because "we are Iowa State", and there are many. We deserve a competitive football program with the resources allotted over the past eight years, way more than those provided to any previous coach. Campbell needs to deliver winning seasons, plain and simple.

Hilarious from a Tottenham fan.

Coming off of a 4-8 season, you expected 8-10 wins?

Based on what on ISU's side?
I didn't say I expected 8-10 wins this year. Show me where I said that.

I said I saw seven to 8 wins -- not unrealistic. A win over Ohio would have put Iowa State at 3-1 going into the Oklahoma game. A win over Iowa -- which seemed a reasonable expectation after beating Iowa at Iowa last year -- would have put ISU at 4-0 going into the Oklahoma game. Three wins out of the next games starting with Oklahoma would have given Iowa State the seventh win.

I've wanted him gone for a few years now. Voted with my pocket book and dropped my season tickets a few years back. When an assistant AD reached out to to ask if I had just forgotten, I told him no. Asked him to call me when you hire a coach that will treat this University, its traditions, alumni, and fans with respect.

Heacock is a great coach and will hate to see him go. If he wants another shot at Head Coach, I would be all for him getting it.

I predicted 5-7 wins on the year to start. We are still on pace for that type of record. If you predicted 7-8 wins as your realistic prediction then that is on you. I wouldn’t have said 7-8 was out of place as an optimistic prediction but you can’t be disappointed about not hitting that mark.

The idea that you're supposed to have a static opinion about a team that never changes no matter what happens is the most unfathomably stupid thing I can imagine. And yet people hold other fans to this standard over and over.

ISU looked really, really bad at times for the first quarter of the season. Now they don't. Circumstances change, and people's opinions change with it. That I'm pleased with their performance against TCU in no way changes how inexcusable that Ohio game was or that Campbell embarrassed himself in the aftermath of that game.

If that doesn't pass some idiot's loyalty test, to hell with him.

Or just maybe some fans shouldn’t be so reactionary to one game.

Wait, how does Campbell not treat the university, traditions, alumni, and fans with respect? Lol that’s an absurd statement.

You mean like you're doing right now? Or does that only count when people react to losses?

Besides, people weren't reacting just to one game. It was two bad seasons on a row, standing (at that time) at the precipice of a third.

What in the actual hell? How exactly has he not treated ANYONE with respect?

Who the f**k said I was disappointed?

Show me where I said I was disappointed.

You all need to read what I wrote.

After building the program up to where Iowa State was playing for a conference title -- after winning the regular season title -- 7 wins would be the floor going forward wouldn't you think?

Last year the program took a step back. If it keeps taking steps back then there is a problem. I never called out Campbell for last year's record.

And I am not calling Campbell out for this season either. I didn't call for McCarney to resign, nor Rhoads. Had they maintained their success, they would still be coach.

Eight to 10 wins -- with an upset or two to reach that goal -- each season is attainable. Campbell has already proven that.

I want Campbell to maintain the success he has had with Iowa State and hopefully improve on those successes.

If you are saying all we should expect from Iowa State is 7 wins every year, then maybe you have the problem. If you had the opportunity to ask him, do you think Campbell would say 7 wins a year is all he can get out of Iowa State ever?

One of the most asinine takes I’ve seen about Campbell.

I’ve never heard a fan who has spoken to him say anything bad about him. He’s embraced our past, especially McCarney.

I think what he did for the family of Nick Bassett was probably one of the kindest things a coach could do. That wasn’t some big donor, he was just kind to a regular family.

Good riddance to you.

You said 7 wins should be the floor. That is saying the absolute minimum we can win is 7.

My expectations are averaging 6-7 wins a year. There will be years we have more and there will be years we have less. I think we should expect to hit 10 wins in the next 5 years. I expect to make an expanded playoff in the next 5-10 years. My expectations aren’t super low but I think our expectations should be fairly wide.
