I didn’t see his presser. Did he offer ANY explanation for fourth quarter clock management. If was astonishingly poor.

Running the ball for 2 or 3 yards over and over again in the last 8 minutes of the game was totally mindboggling. Each one of those plays took 45 seconds off the clock. It's better to have a lot of incompletions for zero yards in that situation because it stops the clock.

Two key questions regarding clock management

1- Would we still score a TD if we moved faster on that drive?
2- Would more urgency have gotten us one more possession with meaningful time left on the clock?

Those are both in doubt, but assuming the answer to both is yes, then we would have saved our timeouts when Iowa had the ball, punted on 4th down instead of going for it, and then used timeouts while trying to force another Iowa punt. At best, we end up right back where we were.

I get it, I was yelling at the radio to get us to move faster, but in terms of why we lost, clock management is quite a ways down on the list.

Why is that EVERY other college or pro team would have been in a hurry up offense in the same situation? I am not saying we would’ve scored but what are you telling your team with your actions. I believe it shows them you don’t trust their ability to win the game.

Okay but on the other hand if he had managed the clock well we would have had to see more of our playcalling choices. So in a sense...

I get playing clock control and conservative on offense if you want to keep the other team off the field on offense. But we have a great defense that can bail you out and allow you to take chances! Take advantage of that!!

Whitver spent the entire reaction show ball washing for Campbell and saying he put is in the spot to win

Hell I don't think he has ever came back from 10 down to win at ISU. Stat people please prove me wrong.

Worst clock management I’ve seen in a long time. We had zero urgency in the 4th qtr. Everyone in the stands was going crazy..it seemed like our coaches were just happy to be there.

I see zero difference in our offense this year compared to last year. We have zero ability to win games with our offense.

You're not wrong buts it not just today, for me at least that its been a problem. And for #1. its not whether or not we score, its about running that situation to give ourselves the BEST CHANCE to score and we didn't do that.
I get that sentiment. It was frustrating to watch our offense eat up clock. Ideally, it would have been nice to score around 4 minutes left. But in the end we scored and our defense got the offense the ball back with 2 minutes.

IMO the big issue was the 3rd/4th down play calling on the last drive:
  1. Not a big fan of short pass/run sequence.
  2. If we are going to have an RPO offense, then Rocco needs to pull the ball and run occasionally to keep the back side defenders honest.
Hard to tell based on camera angle, but looked like Rocco gets 1st down easily if he ran on 4th down.

Seemed like it'd be a huge issue at the time, but we scored a TD and got the ball left with ~2 mins left with decent field position.

You left zero margin for error for the defense.

And still had 60 yards to go which there was next to 0 percent chance we’re going to do in 2 minutes.

I noticed that too- they cutoff every caller that tried to gripe about the click management. I love the reaction show- but be honest guys and tell us they stink when they stink…don’t carry water for the coaches just because it’s uncomfortable.
