Didn’t need to use his legs either. Keep him from getting hit and each week our backups get another week of work as backups. Knowing he can run is nice though.
I don't disagree and maybe JJ's family ties help but in the modern world of football... kids don't wait. I hope that's not the case here but its just the reality of collegiate athletics. Especially with NIL and the higher rated kids.JJ looked like a true freshman, and that's okay. In a perfect world Rocco plays well and efficient, JJ plays 4 games to get experience and redshirt.
Being in the program for a year is a big advantage for Rocco. And I'm assuming his HS competition in Florida was much better than the CIML.
I don't disagree at all - there's just a part of me that dislikes being Iowa. Winning like them would be great. I just have a hard time making fun of their offense anymore because we're not much better offensively atmHe did everything you could ask of him for a RS Fr in week 1. But a lot of bigger tests coming up, starting this week. He looked like a guy who might be a great fit for this team. Just stay calm and protect the ball, let the D put you in good positions.
It'll piss the off "play calling sucks!!!!" crowd, but it'll give this team a pretty good chance in the big 12.
That's all good but I think it's good for the back up to get some snaps when possible as you never know when they are going to have to go in.I trust JJ to be leading the Cyclones one day but right now the job should be Rocco's. I think we score even more points last Saturday if Rocco played the whole game. Switching Qbs every so often i think messed with the offense's rhythm at times. I think Rocco needs as many snaps as he can get before big 12 play.
I was told last year that Rocco had that leadership quality in him that Purdy had. Not saying he is Brock 2.0 but has that natural ability.Watching the game now.
After the Moore TD there are several shots of Rocco talking to a bunch of offensive players.
Can't tell what the interaction is, heck maybe it's 'they're tapping the keg at 8 but I'll probably get there at 7 to get a head start just FYI' but it's good to see the communication.
I'm not saying it didn't happen last year but I don't recall much of it.
Hitting a target in stride 20 yards down the field is not super easy, but not really a difficult throw to make either. I like that Rocco is very comfortable letting it rip. He will make some freshman mistakes, but he will learn from them. The first couple deep balls were into the wind. I guess the TD was too. I thought the 1st deep ball was a heck of a throw; just barely out of reach, and sometimes it almost looks like Noel slows up if he doesn’t think he can get it.
The TD pass was sick. Not a crazy difficult throw but a perfect ball nonetheless.
I hope your right but.. .... its harder for coaches now than ever before with kids I think. I hadn't the old rules but no one sits anymore. Not at that position anyways.I trust JJ to be leading the Cyclones one day but right now the job should be Rocco's. I think we score even more points last Saturday if Rocco played the whole game. Switching Qbs every so often i think messed with the offense's rhythm at times. I think Rocco needs as many snaps as he can get before big 12 play.
I don't disagree but I do have concerns... because if you always lose your backups to NIL, then every year you are short on depth. If the backup QB leaves because the starter is too good that's not s bad thing. It's just the way things are. So many on this board spent the summer telling us how we should start JJ and let him grow into the position. Hopefully he sticks around at least a couple years and sees how things develop. But I can honestly say I have no worries about losing our backup QB to NIL.
It seemed a little odd they interviewed his dad during the telecast... but yeah JJ will take some time but that's totally normal for a freshman. Hopefully it'll be a fun competition in the future but Rocco is definitely the guy for now.Pretty clear that Kohl isn't ready. Which is fine for a freshman, but Rocco showed a lot of poise.
I know JJ is the local kid, but Rocco's dad seems to be all in on Campbell & ISU, so I am pulling for him to succeed.
When we blow it open in the first half JJ will get in.IMO we might only see Rocco against Iowa if he plays well. JJ more likely to play some against Ohio.
