Iowa State Uniform Discussions (update: new basketball unis)

Normally I would love to see us get new uniforms.... there are so many cool options out there you could go with.... but I know we'd f**k it up beyond belief and go with something 10x worse than what we currently have.

So... I'm perfectly fine with what we have. They are at least halfway decent.... and I'm scared to death what we'd come out with.

Ok. This is why I like CF. It has corrected me in the past. I do listen.

I was probably like you a month or two ago (and could be again), my favorite darker gold was our '70's sunflower gold. Is that what you would prefer? Anyway, since then, I have gravitated to a slightly darker, more 'tan' gold. Probably due to the commemorative Trice uni this year. It is indeed closer to the 49er gold, which some keep calling for. Some would have a conniption if we did this.

I will post an image, next, of our cardinal and gold, the 49er red and gold, and some 'proposed' golds. I think that would help me/us figure it out, compromise maybe? I will do this before I do any more image mocks.
It's possible one/more of our design experts here has posted the following combo, if not/so I'd like to see it again - using our current template, i.e, no major redesign tweaks (striping or logo changes) or alteration of hue.

White helmet
Cardinal jersey
White numerals with gold trim
Gold pants
Cardinal socks
White shoes (I'm ok with black, if white makes the uniform too heavy on "alternating pattern")
Those are so much better. The gold is beautiful. Only thing I'd change is maybe a cardinal or gold helmet.
I just started working on some revamped uni templates, in addition to these real life pics/mods. It's just that I haven't felt like doing much of it lately. I think it's all this realignment stuff! Thank god that's over, for a little while anyway!

I'll get back into it. Someday. I just don't feel much pressure to photoshop my ideas completely right now. Not to say I won't. You've been warned! LOL.

In a way, I'm kinda waiting to see what they come up with next, rather than posting some of my silly ideas.

I have nothing to base this off of, but my guess is next year. Next year the big 12 is supposed to have a re-brand, I think the Trice throwbacks and Ames apparel will be a success, and I could see the football program wanting to create a new image. I'm a bit sad we abandoned those shiny red helmets. It seems like in the past each year we would try something new and then we never tried it again.

I still want to know what happened to the helmet stickers. I can't be the only one that just saw them vanish out of nowhere.

I think you may be on to something here, about "next year" with the rebranding of the Big 12. It might look a bit silly having the old Big 12 logo, and then they come up with something new next year!

I would like to see more of the black helmet with our cardinal uni. That is something they could expand upon.

I'm not sure what to say about the red metallic helmets. They did look fine with the white jersey and pant, but they weren't even close to being a match to our cardinal. What, we used them 2x IIRC, and last time a couple, or even 3-4 years ago now? I'm sure they went back to the factory for a redoing of the color by now, for somebody anyway.

Stickers should and could come back. Just get rid of Cy in the Toilet, use something else, or our many good retro logos. Make it happen.

What is the objection to the beveling
The beveling has two main issues in my mind. First is the legibility, particularly from a distance or when the logo is small. The extra detail and busy-ness added by the beveling means that it is harder to immediately identify the logo when seen from far away.

Second is the issue of colors, specifically, when looking at the fully beveled logo, which colors are the official cardinal and gold of ISU? There are two versions of each color present and it is not immediately apparent which ones define our visual identity. This also plays into the legibility thing because the colors begin to blend when the logo is small or far away.

The bevels are also just a very late-90s/early-2000s design trend where a lot of designs and logos were being made to look 3-dimensional. In the last 5 to 10 years though design philosophy has moved toward simplified logos and wordmarks that are more easily distinguishable.

By removing the bevels and adopting a simplified and sharper version of the logo that has been in use for 15 years, we are able to maintain the visual identity tied to one of the strongest time periods is school history, while also adapting it to changing sensibilities.

The best white helmet was with the metallic logo (but, yeah, drop the beveling)

I like the beveling. I have these helmet stickers on my truck. LOVE this sticker. I'm not opposed to using both, but just because some like it one way doesn't mean it should go that way.
I'm OK with using the 2-Color logo more, but think we should keep the 3-Color version also. I like it. It adds a little depth to the helmet. [And I think the 3-Color is what we use mostly for the helmets.]

The 4-Color I-State logo could disappear and I wouldn't mind that.

I'm not even sure we had anything but the 4-Color when the I-State logo came out in 2007? At some point a revision was made to add the 3-Color and 2-Color ones. I'm guessing that was 2015 but am not sure. Maybe we had the 3-Color one all along too?

It's time to use the 2-Color I-State logo more, in the cardinal & gold version, at least 50% of the time (?), and maybe as the primary.

We use the 3-Color I-State in cardinal & gold, never have tried the 2-Color yet, iirc.

We have used the 2-Color I-State several times in monochromatic black, or cardinal.

The above is just based on my observations and memory, not necessarily fact.

Allow the 4-Color logo to disappear.

Soonerswire not a big fan of our helmets. Especially the Cardinal one. Also no homerism with the #1 pick either.

I don't know why I read that whole thing ... but I did.
