Horrible at bat by Morel.
LOL, trying to hit a home run when a single is needed. That was ridiculous.

Horrible at bat by Morel.
It was the right move in that situation. That's baseball 101, you have to move runners into scoring position and take yourself out of a double play possibility also.As Brett Taylor pointed out, having Madrigal bunt with a high SO guy like Morel coming behind was dumb as well. Ross is clueless.

Smyly sucked again. Hendricks s remedies up the 5th, he should of been able to get 6 then Wesneski never would of seen the mound.Offensively, it was a bad series. Lots of runners left on base. Pitching continues to impress. Alonso had 10 RBI's, and the Mets had 17 runs in the series.
Madrigal is also a pretty weak contact hitter who could have easily hit into a double play. Then you would have had a runner on 3rd with 2 outs instead of 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.He has a strikeout rate of 33.1% which is the bottom 5% in the league. At that rate, giving up an out when he's a likely out isn't a good play, in my mind. If they are bunting, I'd just as soon see Gomes pinch hit there. Much higher likelihood of putting the ball in play.
Or grounding into a DP. If they can do another 29-11 they run away with the division. He has a strikeout rate of 33.1% which is the bottom 5% in the league. It was the right call, I agree though, a pinch hitter would have been wise or at the very least explain go him the situation and that he needs to shorten his swing and make some contact. Really poor coaching job by Ross last night imo.
I'm talking about rookie of the year next year, as they would still be rookies. If they plan on potentially being on the roster opening day for the new rules then you can bring them up this year and not worry about it. Not saying that will be the reason, but it could be part of the thought process. And if they don't make the roster opening day then you just have to keep them down a little bit longer. It's entirely possible they call guys up but I don't think the new service rules are going to mean much for the Cubs.
First full year of service time is your 172nd day on an active roster with 187 days in an MLB year OR finishing 1st or 2nd in Rookie of the Year Voting regardless when you're called up.
It's much too late for Brown or PCA to finish top 2 in Rookie of the Year. Additionally, finishing top 3 in ROY earns your team an extra draft pick if that player earned a full year of service time.
130 at bats, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on the active roster is what equates to a rookie.
There is no reason Matt Mervis wasn't called up last year for experience other than service manipulation. The question we have to ask is whether Brown and PCA are difference makers for the playoff push, which I would say probably not.
There's so much stupidity in that statement.Blaming a Cubs right fielder for being overpaid? I’d never do such a thing! Suzuki, Heyward, Fukudome, Bradley—-it’s been a joke for the last 20 years since Sosa left to find a guy that can play the position at an average level and hit in the middle of the lineup.
There's so much stupidity in that statement.

Anyone that blames the guy that signed the contract rather than the one that offered it isn’t very bright. How so? Literally paying a guy $22 million to not play for you anymore because he is so bad (Heyward). Paying $18 million to a guy that can’t figure it out and has to sit for a career minor leaguer on a minimum salary (Suzuki). Trading a guy for literally nothing to unload his contract after 3 years (Fukudome). It’s a revolving door in right field that just has awful contract after awful contract.
Thanks for calling me stupid though!
Your ******** about putting a guy in that position that had homered and walked already. He's been drastically improved discipline wise at the plate lately. He has a strikeout rate of 33.1% which is the bottom 5% in the league. If Suzuki turns things around for real the FO will have some tough calls to make next year. Sure you can carry 5 outfielders but who's not going to play. Especially if Morel is a full-time DH.I'm talking about rookie of the year next year, as they would still be rookies. I'm well aware of the service time manipulation and how it works.

Some on you need to find fault with every loss even though they've been on a tear. If you need to pin this on someone I'd look at Hendricks not getting out of the fifth early then forcing long relief to pitch the 6th and our 3,4,5 going 0/13.
