Cal and Stanford should go independent and we can compare selling Apple Subscriptions with selling little league candy bars.

I appreciate some of the thoughts but he's totally ignoring the fact that the Big 10 and SEC currently have way more power than the NCAA.
Yeah he’s begging the NCAA to save them but the NCAA hasn’t had a say in media rights since they lost the Oklahoma/Georgia lawsuit in 1984.

Conferences see dollar signs in big-time matchups attractive for TV; they pull more of those teams into their conference to increase the number of those matchups; media providers keep throwing more money at the conferences to televise those matchups; rinse and repeat.

It‘s unsustainable, but I suppose the question is how much of college football will be ruined before the golden goose of TV money gets the knife? The next thing to come is subscription-based media contracts … it’ll be interesting to see who lives and who dies when your existence depends on how many viewers shell out $75 or whatever for their games - and by interesting I mean terrifying and rage-inducing.

But this yahoo asking the NCAA for help, dude, you’re barking up the wrong forest. Also, where did you stand on UW/UO? USC? Maryland & Rutgers? Nebraska? As a Michigan Regent you must have had an opinion.

Doesn't matter. If you put the most elite 24 or 30 programs/brands into one superconference eventually there's going to be a top half and a bottom half of that superconference and that bottom half will no longer be viewed as elite.
You don’t understand, Gonzo, it’ll be the Lake Woebegone Conference where everybody finishes with a winning record and they all go to the playoff.

Outside of those board I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say the P2 isn’t sustainable
Article from last year

“It simply is not sustainable what is happening, because you essentially now have two super-conferences within the structure, and you can try to argue that the rest of the sports matters. But I don’t think it really does."

Granted, this quote is from Finebaum. But if Finebaum admits a P2 conference isn't sustainable, and he is about as pro SEC as it gets, then it should have more merit. Many Big 10 schools shouldn't feel 100% safe IMHO

You're saying that teams like Purdue, Minnesota, Mississippi St. are going to bet booted from their conference in 5-10 years?
I used to think the SEC and Big 10 would dissolve and try to do something like this, but I've changed my tune. Now, I never thought it would work, because it wrecks the last product differentiation college football has, but I thought people that ran these ADs were short-sighted enough to run college football in the ground.

I think we're starting to see the acknowledgement that college football isn't a marginally different product from the NFL. It's a significantly different product, and it needs to stay that way.

Man, without Clemson or FSU I just wonder who becomes the football heavyweight in the ACC?

UNC should be much better than they have been. NC State is good, but not great. VT is a shadow of themselves since Beamer Sr left. UVA is okay. Miami hasn’t looked relevant since the early 00’s. Pitt has been decent but no world beater. Stanford or Cal aren’t threatening for the playoff anytime soon. Louisville has flashed but is inconsistent. If we count Notre Dame, I guess it’s them?

That begs a new question. Does ND eventually decide to lead a rudderless ACC? If they keep NBC money, their path to the CFP might be easier in the ACC than as an independent.
I know it's never really happened in the past but Georgia Tech is a bit of a sleeping giant.

Well I’m pretty sure everyone agreed to not take anything Finebaum said seriously unless you believe Jack Trice is also like a kindergarten class. Also he didn’t say the P2 wasn’t sustainable, he said the other sports/conferences. Which outside of the P3 currently, is true.

*edit: also I’ve always been on the side that the big ten isn’t kicking anyone out, and stand by that

I disagree. SEC doesn't even want to schedule more conference games and a lot of these schools don't want any harder of schedules. I just don't see these powerhouse schools wanting a 30 league super conference. Somebody has to lose. And even the top teams are still going to lose more than they do now if they're playing the top teams week in and week out.

After the ACC is destroyed and top brands picked off you, @Gonzo, @FriendlySpartan and others expect Texas to stop looking for more money suddenly?

The ACC is still out there. Once it goes through what Pac just went through the only remaining step is to purge the legacy invites that don’t bring great value.

Legalities prohibit just kicking them out, but I could list at least three easy ways it could actually be done.

Maybe you’re all right though and after a few more moves Ohio State and Texas will start hating money.

FSU and others would never admit ACC schools with voting power, they’re trying to get 8 votes to dissolve the conference, not add teams that need an acc lifeboat.

Don’t think anyone has ever said texas wouldn’t do crazy/stupid/shortsighted things, it’s the states motto. Big ten will be fine.

The entire article about how a P2 conference is not sustainable. We don't know for sure if one super conference will form or not, but there is a real possibility of it occurring. At this point, people should at least admit such a thing could occur, and it's more likely to happen now than it was even 10 years ago.

So when will it be easier to travel to the moon for a game?

Talk about travel expenses!!!!! The two California School's athletes will spend days in the air flying back and forth to the east coast. They will not have time to practice and attend classes. If this happens, I hope that their donors have millions to pay for travel. I also guess that the transfer portal will be filled by their athletes if this happens.

I'll be interested to see how much more media money is out there in the next round of realignment

The time is one thing. For sure.

My old ass takes a few to get used to the time changes too. Each way.

So Miami flies to Oregon. Long ass flight followed up by a game being played at 10 o'clock for the east coast player's internal clock.

And if we still believe in a student athletic the player needs to hit the books too.

This **** is just out of control

Nothing to rescind, he just calls himself that. ASU has replaced Texas in my mind as most hated team in the conference and they're not even in the conference yet. TH is off the hook. If there's not a "Crow Sucks" or "F*ck Crow" chant when we play them, I'll be highly disappointed.
I totally get where you're coming from. I think Crowe is a jackass but, for me personally, my hated team is Utah and it's not even close. Their fanbase seems like a bunch of arrogant pricks. They think they're going to waltz through the Big 12 on their way to a future Big 10 invite. I just have a gut feeling they're going to be a huge pain in the ass.
