I would strongly push back on the idea that the “easy” top 20 includes Miami and Auburn. Probably not UCLA either.

I'd include Auburn and say an easy top 18.

Stanford and Cal make some sense for the ACC. Its goal should be to prepare for FSU & Co.’s eventual exit, no later than 2036. When that happens, you want to be big enough to be able to survive and fend off the Big 12. And who knows, if the ACC loses FSU and Miami but can hold onto its middle tier, it might be able to even poach the Big 12 - UCF would be an obvious target in that case.

And those schools are snobby enough to be enthralled with playing Duke, UNC, UVA even if means flying across the country for all of their games. They see themselves as better than the Big 12.

I don’t think this is necessarily a stupid idea given the situations all of these actors find themselves in.

This is one of the reasons why I think it was important to destroy the PAC now. By taking some teams from the PAC, anything that happens with the ACC shouldn't affect us as badly. The important thing for us is to grow our brand and on field success so that teams want to be apart of our conference rather than staying in a neutered, but still viable ACC.

I agree but Colorado leaving the PAC to go back to the Big 12 is a minor ripple compared to the B1G and SEC dissolving to allow the creation of a superconference.

Of course it’s a small ripple. Point is money from media deals will always win. We have no clue what the landscape looks like in 10 years.

100%. There is no better fan base with better expertise in realignment than Big 12 fans, especially potential left-behinds ISU and KSU.

I thought it would be 15 years or so before teams like Purdue, Minnesota, Mississippi State, etc. would feel realignments wrath, but that timeline has moved up with the OU/WA move.

I think it's just laying the ground work. Between new media deals (B10, SEC, B12) CFP expansion, the new CFP media deal in a few years, the new NCAA tourney media deal, everyone's seeing their revenue increase pretty quickly. While it's good for now, it's going to be hard replicating those increases going forward. I'd look for blue bloods to try to get a larger slice if the next round of media deals aren't as big of a jump in value, or if we've seen peak values. If that's the case, the coattail riders will need to look out.

Had we added Colorado and Arizona and stopped at 14, and the ACC had scooped up Cal, Stanford, Utah, and Arizona State to get to 18, I would not feel at all comfortable about our future once the ACC lost its top tier. There would have been the real possibility of the rest of the ACC poaching who it wanted from the Big 12 with us not making the cut for the 3 superleagues. I think we did what we could, as best we could, to position ourselves for that future now.

Thats their play there, period. Doubt it works but cant blame them for looking under a rock for a gold coin.

West coast time slot did the pac in. Nobody wants to stay up til midnight to watch the tale end of a game. It's been hurting their recruiting over the years and the pac has slipped. Getting these teams scheduled with some east/Midwest time slot schools should help them in the long run.

I'd stay up to watch meaningful conference games that include us ( of course) or other MW interests. ( KSt, OSU, TCU etc. )

The next shoe to drop, before any “super league” is the NCAA basketball tournament media deal and disbursements. The Big 12 has been subsidizing the SEC and Big 10’s share of the NCAA tourney and has burned the brunt of the cost of the NCAA. If I were the Big 12, ACC and Big East, I would force the SEC and Big 10 to pony up a portion of their media deals to help pay for the NCAA.

Doesn't matter. If you put the most elite 24 or 30 programs/brands into one superconference eventually there's going to be a top half and a bottom half of that superconference and that bottom half will no longer be viewed as elite.

completely disagree. there needs to be some games on TV you realize? TV $ is driving this. it's not going to keep cutting in half. weird extreme take that makes no sense you sound like old man yelling at clouds. "well just make it Bama Geogia Ohio St Notre Dame then" hmmphh.

Man, without Clemson or FSU I just wonder who becomes the football heavyweight in the ACC?

UNC should be much better than they have been. NC State is good, but not great. VT is a shadow of themselves since Beamer Sr left. UVA is okay. Miami hasn’t looked relevant since the early 00’s. Pitt has been decent but no world beater. Stanford or Cal aren’t threatening for the playoff anytime soon. Louisville has flashed but is inconsistent. If we count Notre Dame, I guess it’s them?

That begs a new question. Does ND eventually decide to lead a rudderless ACC? If they keep NBC money, their path to the CFP might be easier in the ACC than as an independent.

To me if we ever go to 20 I'd like to see at least 3 of the 4 coming from the ACC. Really no hurry to get there. 2036 will come soon enough.

I cannot imagine that anyone is going to want to shell out more money for those additions. In fact, I'd think it would lower the payouts to go with increased travel expenses. Weird.
