so when are the next tv contracts up for SEC/Big 10?
curious when this "super conference" type setup finally happens that we all know will happen at some point.
i don't think teams get completely cut out of CFP but it will just be even more heavily weighted towards the largest / most profitable programs.
feels like some type of "tier 1, tier 2, tier 3" setup. top 25 tier 1. remainder of P5 teams tier 2. G5 teams tier 3.
tier 1 gets 8 playoff teams, tier 2 gets 3, tier 3 gets 1.
tier 1 plays 6 gms vs other tier 1 teams. 4 gms vs tier 2. 2 gms vs tier 3.
tier 2 plays 6 gms vs tier 2, 4 gms vs tier 1, 2 gms vs tier 3.
tier 3 plays 8 gms vs tier 3, 2 gms vs tier 1, 2 gms vs tier 2
fine i'll take over college football pay me $1M salary i'll handle any and all questions.
you can create a system that gives biggest $ makers their flowers, while at some time not completely neglecting the smaller schools. fine give bigger schools more seats at the table for CFP, i have no issue with that.
tier 1 games get all the prime time slots, networks can figure that part out and it'll have to be shared partnerships. but there's plenty of $ to go around and tier 2 teams still would be on main networks most the time and same as now worse case is ESPN + or whatever.
the ultimate debating topic would be who gets in tier 1?
pretty easy to create a very basic ranking system based off athletic dept revenue, attendance/tv viewership, wins/losses. weight it out 25% + 25% + 50% or something. 1/4 revenue 1/4 popularity 1/2 team success. makes winning still matter but if one of most profitable and popular brands you'll always be tier 1. it'd get heated for those final spots of course but how fun would that be? each year there's teams jumping from tier 2 to tier 1. AD's / Coaches urging their fans to sell out their last few games if they're right on that tier 1 bubble.
i think we could all rattle off the top 20ish teams that would for sure be tier 1. curious who rounds out your top 25. i think we can all admit we'd start in tier 2. i think Iowa would be one of teams on the bubble of tier 1.
would be much more enjoyable setup than whatever the F is happening now.
