Honestly they are going to the mountain west and adding teams like Oregon state and Washington will make it a decent conference. Not a great one but still pretty decent

In early 00s MWC was REALLY solid when Utah and TCU were playing great. BSU was great back then too but didn't join MWC until Utah/TCU were out the door. Top of MWC was not only better than Big East, but better than ACC some of those years.

With Utah/BYU both in a major conference (maybe not Utah, we'll see for sure), the region is way more represented than it used to be, but I could still see mountain teams improving to the point where they easily eclipse AAC/Sun Belt as the best non power conference...especially because AAC was weakened a lot by B12.

If Utah does lose at musical chairs the MWC certainly has a flagship team back since BSU has faded from their best years.

ya. it seems like a no-brainer. we get credit for being good at basketball, so losses dont hurt that bad. might as well really stack the conference. i could see a 14-16 team big 12 getting 10+ bids most years.

the value of a team like UConn that can be beaten up on a little in football vs a formidable team like Utah could be the difference in the big 12 getting an additional playoff bid some years, because any losses really seem to be disqualifying for us in football.

Going that route with UConn has always been 10x as appealing as Gonzaga. I think the Gonzaga talk was to just highlight to a program like AZ how flat footed their own conference was.

Whenever ACC time comes around you take the best basketball brands available. I know UNC won't be an option but other basketball legacy schools will be.

Where would B12 be right now had Cincinnati UCF Houston and BYU not been added?
It’s possible the B12 still poaches from the PAC. No really, hear me out.

The Angry 8 stick together because they still have a media deal through 2024-25. The B10 and SEC aren’t targeting any of the Angry 8, it sure seems like the ACC can’t add anyone else with their GOR, so that leaves the PAC as the only likely landing spot available. With this, the B12 doesn’t agree to OUT’s early exit, so there are still 10 members for the next two years.

The PAC still needs to get a new TV deal for 2024. Sure, maybe they get better offers if the B12 doesn’t jump the line, but OR and WA are still the lynchpins for the new deal. And they’re both going to drag their feet (if not outright blow up a few deals) hoping for a last minute B10 invite.

This creates an interesting position for WA St, OR St and maybe Colorado. If OR and WA sign a new PAC deal, they’re probably okay. For now. Because who knows at the next media deal will bring. Also, OR and WA aren’t eager to sign the new deal and who knows what happens if a B10 invite does come through. Would that be enough for the B12 to lure them over, jump the line and still get a new deal ahead of the PAC? Perhaps.

Basically, the PAC's still ****** and the B12 is still good. The B12 doesn’t pick up all 4 of UCF, Cinci, BYU and Houston, but maybe two get a call. BYU has the best value, but might push the PAC schools away. UCF grows the footprint and has the most potential, but the value is a question. Cinci has the most recent success and fits geographically, but again, value is a question. Houston probably doesn’t get a call.

wonder if CFB ends up looking similar to Premiere league type setup. tiers based on program value + attendance + wins/losses. top tier gets most teams into a playoff but still give lower tiers a few spots as well.

this wouldn't be based on geography whatsoever but that's not being factored in at the moment anyway. schedules created to have majority of games to nearby schools but schedules created to be equally fair for every team within each tier.

anyway back to the cluster F. i'll stop trying to use reason.

As a huge fan if you told me ISU got an extra regular season game (regardless of venue) against a team above .500 but not ranked top ten….AWESOME.

And preferably not within 200 miles of that team's stadium.

Behind you
With 18 teams, and 3 protected rivals isn’t that literally impossible?
Probably, but I'm guessing without divisions whatever adjustments need to be made won't result in Iowa going half a decade or more of missing tOSU and the other bluebloods.

AZ most likely just waiting now to announce together with ASU.

Other than Cal/Stan out in the wind with zero news, the biggest question is if Utah is working with AZ/ASU to make sure UU is #16 to big 12.

With AZ,Asu,CU in hand I could see Yormark’s basketball and market vision taking precedent over a second Utah fb team unless AZ/ASU are working for Utah in which case it’s the four corners as always rumored.
I'm more lukewarm on ASU/UT now UNLESS we have our strategy fully vetted for the ACC. That's our next threat/shopping area.

Nebraska was an AAU member when they first got into the Big 10.

A lot of AAU members out there that had better academic profile than Nebraska.

At the time ISU, Kansas and Missouri were members with a better academic profiles than Nebraska...of course ISU's own alumni tanked that on purpose, talking at the time. That's just Big 12, lots of others.
