With all of this re-alignment being about money and the athletic departments being not for profit so they have to spend the money on something, what is the point of getting more money if it doesn't lead to winning more. Vanderbilt is getting gobs of money for the athletic department from the SEC and doesn't win and doesn't have top facilities. What do they spend their money on if they have to spend it? What is the point of having more money in athletics if you don't win? Buying more buildings for the sake of buying buildings etc doesn't make much sense to me.

found this post about 2022 attendance avgs for every school - pretty interesting and magnifies just how little interest in PAC 12 football there is. every team but Kansas in Big 12 was 45th or better in attendance.
2/3 of PAC 12 was 47th or worse. USC and Wash only 2 to barely make top 25.

Where would B12 be right now had Cincinnati UCF Houston and BYU not been added?

I didn't love the add of 4 to get to 12. A ten team conference was really nice for the Big 12 for a long time. I especially didn't like Houston or UCF.

That being said Houston would have be #1 target of the PAC 12 when USC/UCLA left so it was good to have them not be an option. I'm still not convinced they would have taken BYU as they had the opportunity to take them a while ago and the religious school issue.

Had we only taking BYU/Cinci, you can see the Pac 12 taking Houston/SDSU and stayed at 12, having at least one of those off the table really made the Pac 12 wait it out

I actually think the Big 10 has made themselves slightly vulnerable going forward. They have a ton of egos and mouths to feed once its time for the next media rights negotiation. Plus add all of the travel challenges they have. They will be completely fine until 2030 because money will cure all until then. But that next cycle might be challenging unless they are consistently getting 3+ teams into the playoffs. They really need on field performance to go up a notch now compared to their usual Ohio St. plus one other school situation. And even then there might just be less money available for college sports media rights generally. I'd much rather be the SEC than the Big 10 going forward.

I’ve heard that the top SEC teams have started talks of a breakaway conf to shed the bottom 1/3. I could see B1G doing the same.

If something could stand less than 0% chance of happening this would be it.

We literally almost faced it two years ago. So we don’t need to imagine.

thats why i want uconn and not utah. basketball reasons and also **** utah.

Hoops:
- Already #1 on the court, have been for 12 years statistically
- If we aren't #1 in basketball media value it would be close
- Very likely close to #1 in attendance
- Big East is the clear top competitor in on the court reality and their best program could flip to us. The football analogy of that is Michigan or Ohio State flipping to the SEC.

FB:
- #3 on the field, maybe close to #2 on field some years. Talking top to bottom, not NC contenders.
- #3 in media value
- 0% chance of ever catching #1/#2 in media value
- Close to 0% chance of losing #3 position in media value

We are what we are in FB. Utah is nothing in FB that OK St, Baylor, TCU, UCF and I hate to say KSU already are not, they're good but they aren't a regular NC contender. We could push forward to an even greater level in hoops, create separation, adding a second true blue blood to the 5-10 elite to very good programs we have.

the case studies of the last 2 years will be interesting. thankfully the big 12 got poached first and had time to recover.
