i don't have any idea how a bor works but its crazy to me that if AZ wants to leave the bor can say no you must take way less money for your university because thats what ASU wants.
Article from January
ASU reported it provided its athletics department with $26.4 million in fiscal 2022 — $14.7 million in institutional and government support and a record $11.7 million in student fees.

UA reported it provided its athletics department with $31.1 million — $27.9 million in institutional support, which includes a $14.8 million internal loan, contrary to NCAA reporting guidelines, and a record $3.2 million in student fees.

Total revenues bounced back from the economic upheaval of the pandemic but were offset by expenses.

Both the Sun Devils and Wildcats reported operating losses, finishing $2.9 million and $591,000 in the red, respectively, in 2022, despite receiving the second-largest athletics subsidies in school history.

Best case: Arizona only comes, Big 12 waits for ACC to crumble and is selective for the next teams
Worst case: Big 12 adds UCONN which is a massive basketball brand and we get East Coast exposure. Football wise, they are probably on par with Arizona. I'd still rather have Arizona, but UCONN isn't a bad fall back option and would also be cheaper than Arizona.

Kind of happy we won't have to deal with ASU or Utah. They don't want to be in the Big 12, **** em

Playoff spot might be appealing carrot for Oregon and Washington. But Arizona has little chance for that. And the visibility they would be giving up in addition to absolutely tanking the Wildcats in SOS for the NCAA’s. Then consider the $8 million extra from the Big 12. And their AD is broke.

Why would you leave if you are Arizona or Arizona State when you can just tap into the student fees for your deficit?

If I were a member of the AZ BOR I’d see this as an opportunity to diversify risk. Seems silly to not take that opportunity to diversify into a more stable investment without having to sell at the current low price. Free opportunities like this don’t come around very often.

So what power does the BOR have then? What happens if Robbins signs a deal with the Big12?

What do you mean? They can approve or nuke any deal. Supposedly they "authorized" the move to the Big 12 last night but what that technically means, I haven't seen reported. Did they give the president the authority to decide? Did they make the decision to move the Big 12 conditionally, like only if the Pac collapses for example? I haven't seen real specific reporting on that, mostly because once such moves are authorized they generally always happen. I saw a mention a short time ago that they might make UA and ASU lock arms in whatever happens.

They already are... and it's not enough:

UA reported it provided its athletics department with $31.1 million — $27.9 million in institutional support, which includes a $14.8 million internal loan, contrary to NCAA reporting guidelines, and a record $3.2 million in student fees.
