What a great tribute. He was one of my favorite 'clones of all time.
Well done Brent. Dedric was one of a kind. Not sure if number decals can go on jerseys but if they can a "22" needs to go them this season.

I've told this story before, but Dedric, Pratt, Kato, Bankhead, Holloway, etc. were regulars at Tazzle's. The first time I saw Dedric there, I was star-struck and said something cool like "hey, you're Dedric Willoughby". He was really nice and shook my hand. Everytime we'd see him there after that, he would always say "hi" or give a high-five on the way by. He just seemed like a real cool guy. Obviously, I loved watching him play, but I always felt like I knew him a little...
Yeah, from all these stories I'm reading about his personality, he seemed almost like Haliburton. Just a nice guy loving the game and life.

Agree!! At least a DW patch on jerseys if they can’t use numbers. Definitely need a strong tribute for one of the all time great Cyclones.
And for how much TJ has talked about his love for Iowa State and Ames I would be surprised and disappointed if something like this doesn't happen.
Say what you will about the last couple of years of the Steve Prohm era, but I really did like how he openly and passionately embraced the history and legacy of the program. I hope that TJ does something similar.

Dedric played at a fundraiser at our high school and was shooting rainbow 3s...like nearly hitting the lights and dropping through, barely touching net. Seemed like he never missed.
Well done as usual @brentblum. We're pretty close in age and this news hit me a lot like it hit you. I heard it and instantly had a flashback to when I was 12. I lived and breathed ISU basketball during those Floyd years and Dedric was always my guy. I look at it is way- Johnny, Fred, Loren and Julo opened the door to my ISU fandom. Floyd, Willoughby, Cato, and Holloway hooked me for life.

And that team was incredible. How they did what they did with the talent they had is a testament to coaching and a squad buying in. They played together and worked together to win games. By far my favorite Cyclone team ever.

Are they still doing the MBB alumni weekend thing during the summer? I know it was well received from what I had heard.
This is so true...that team and group of guys really hooked a ton of people on Iowa state basketball....not sure why really but they just captured everyone's imagination....hell Iowa fans lived Dedric, Kansas fans loved him and tgat team....just a real good group of guys I guess.
They took ISU to that next level by defending the ball and grinding out wins.
To be fair I actually liked Vaughn and many of the players at KU then.
