F1 2023 Discussion

Well this would explain why Lando was on Hards for that last stint. I thought they blew it as I was watching it live.

Speaking about the call to go on hards, with the cars around Norris all on softs, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella explained it was all down to timing.

“Under the virtual safety car, we were happy to go on hard tyres because it wouldn't have been a problem in terms of warm up,” he said.

“But then the virtual safety car was converted into a safety car when we were pitting, and everything was [ready] at the pitstop to put hard tyres on. A last-minute change to soft would have been an operational problem.”

Sargeant has been quietly very good the last two weeks. Hope we can see the Williams keep this form up. Exciting to see them in the middle of the pack and James Vowles is making himself very obviously the heir to Toto.

Also, Piastri is awesome. Didn't realize he didn't get the new front wing this weekend that Lando did, but he was right there with him on pace and got screwed by the safety car. He's going to be really good in F1.

Piastri was barely mentioned on the broadcast because he was just consistently putting in good laps and not letting anyone catch him. Even went after Max for a little bit.

This is behind a paywall but if you have a subscription to The Athletic this is a good article about kids from the US and their path to F1. The big takeaway for me is Kevin Harvick (the NASCAR driver) has a kid racing in Italy right now trying to get to F1.

Someone new will be in the AT for Hungary because NDV is out as of now.

Gonna be honest, NDV never really rubbed me the right way. Curious to see how he bounces back from this

Id guess he doesn’t, he’s almost 30 and looked bad, worse than Yuki who also isn’t great. At worst if Danny doesn’t have it you could put in an actual young rookie who may have the potential to get better.
