F1 2023 Discussion

So apparently they were true, Danny Ric will be in the Alpha next week. That car sucks but I guess we’ll see what he’s got.

Danny Ric and Tsunoda on the same team will be some must watch tv at least

Think if Danny Ric can challenge for points in half the remaining races in that car, and Checo continues to be well below Max, they replace Checo with Danny Ric next year?

Right. It's about time we got some good F1 drama. This season has been kind of boring with Max destroying everyone.

If he doesn't start consistently qualifying well then yes.

I think replacing Checo is overblown though. He just needs to fix this weird qualifying funk he's in, his race pace has been good enough.

They just need someone to be 2nd in the standings, which is exactly where Checo is. But yeah if he can’t figure out qualifying things could get dicey with Alonso challenging for 2nd.

For this year yes. However, when the other teams catch up (they always do) they don’t want someone like Perez at the wheel when he struggles with the fastest car on the grid. Hamilton and a few others would be kicking Checos ass if they had the same car. Just like Max does. So right now it’s about future seasons.

In reality, Checo is there to start P2 and be a buffer between Max and the rest of the field. I'm not sure Red Bull give a **** one way or another about Checo, other than him being there at the front of the field to give Max some break away time. He's not doing that now and I guarantee you it pisses Horner off. Him coming through the field and getting a good finish is nice and all, but that's not his job.

As someone asked above, is he tanking on purpose? I almost think yeah, he's got a beef with the team and this is his way to grind their gears a bit while still proving he has the chops to move the car through the field. It would be tough to be #2 on that team knowing your only role is to help Max.

Hope we get the same Ricciardo from McLaren. I know people like him, but I've never gotten the appeal. Of course it's a no lose from the Red Bull side. He's either washed up but they'll at least have entertainment value in that Alpha Tauri tractor, or he's still got it and they can make Checo's seat even hotter.

I am unsure where people think Danny Ric is the answer for Red Bull? Seems like a least a partial head case and didn't perform well at all when last in a car.

His last car was junk. I don’t think he is a head case at all. Just a fun loving guy that enjoys the spotlight
Lando scored 122 points. Ric never looked right and did not preform even to the level of the car he had.

If Danny Ric challenges for points in the alpha in the next two races. I expect him to be in the Red Bull after summer break, provided Checo is still underperforming.

At somepoint other teams will be close to Max, and they need a second car to hold them off not making Q3 and finishing in 3-8th is not good enough.

That sucks, I like Checo, but Red Bull just sacked their back marker driver, in his first year in F1 because Danny was quick in a test of the Red Bull. Have to think the same can be done to Checo. They have plenty of drivers that can drive that alpha to 18th every week.

Just curious and I don't know. Would Checo's second place points stay with Red Bull and Danny Ric would get them or do they go to whatever car Checo goes to like Alpha would now be in second place. Obviously they would keep the constructors points but would Perez still be in second place? If not I would not expect them to make a change until after the season so they could finish with the top two driver's and then make a switch after the year.

I don't know the answer to that. My guess is the drivers keeps their points, but I don't know if that is true, but I will say they get no money for finishing second. The money all comes via the constructor's championship, so it doesn't really impact them if they have a driver finish second in the championship or not. Other than prestige. But all RB cares about is Max. I don't think they have any other focus.

I think Perez is already gone at the end of the season. They’re seeing what they have with Danny Ric and Yuki head to head to see if either stands out. According to Helmut, deVries was consistently three tenths slower than Yuki and hasn’t gained any ground this season. It’ll be the same test for Yuki and Danny Ric.

Then they’ll see where Palou fits in the whole equation.

Helmut seems ruthless at times, however I love the fact that he clearly picks a mark. You don't hit that mark then you are out. (I guess so long as the mark is clear with all involved)

That McLaren was a shitbox and I think they messed with him mentally as well. I didn’t think we’d see Daniel this year let alone in the worst car on the grid(I say this as a haas fan). If he can beat Yuki, I think he’ll be in the Red Bull seat next year.
