Random Thoughts 17: Here we go again.

Same age here. We’ve done some hybrids in smaller town tourneys this year where after a couple walks a coach pitches to a batter but never with a 1-1 count. That seems really silly. I don’t understand the rationale there. Even against some of the better USSSA teams we’ve played, walks are an issue. Per USSSA rules, 8u doesn’t have a 5 run limit per inning which I also have a problem with. We played a game last week where the first inning took an hour and a half. How the hell does that teach them anything?
This is just the Marion city rec league but we are going to look at club ball for next year because I don't think he is learning much.

as far as i know we don't flush anything of that sort but who knows- could be anything.

maybe my wife took a massive sh*t while i was gone that clogged the sewer line and shes going to hold that secret for life.

our septic probably needs cleaned out as it's been past the 5 years they recommend. i like to live on the wild side.
Definitely get it pumped out. You might have them check to see if any of the laterals are blocked while you're at it.

We did a city league last year and I thought the same thing. It was a joke, even with me coaching. So many of the kids have no clue or even much interest in actually playing baseball and you spend so much time trying to do the most basic of things. So I hopped in with one of the local travel clubs this year which might be too young at 8 but I wanted my son to start learning what baseball actually should look like.

As an aside, I’ve learned this year that Cedar Rapids/Marion must be some kind of a hot spot for youth baseball. There are a ton of good teams down there.

Got any big trees that have roots that grew into your line? I’ve deal with that once and had to tear our half my driveway. Not fun. And not cheap.

I did read that could be an issue- but I don't think that could happen with where things are located. I'm not 100% sure where exactly my main sewer line feeds but there aren't any treeS from the house to where the septic tank actually iS.

think ive either got a blockage in the main sewer line or my septic is going to start backing up

had a pile of poo poo water on my basement drain last night when i got home from a weekend golfing trip.

i swear if a bird is blocking my main line...

hows everyones monday?

Better than yours, thanks for asking!

You should be able to open the septic tank and see if it's full. I know it's gross but I remember doing that as a kid. There was just a thin layer of sod over ours. Also our leech field became saturated and started backing up as we had added another bathroom. I had to dig that up during a rainstorm to keep it from backing up into the house.

Our run off is down towards our pasture so i'm going to head out there tonight to see if we have some backup there.

I'm not sure where I'd even open it up at. I don't have your typical septic cover, that I know of, that I can easily access.

Could be as simple as where it is finishing in the pasture could be plugged take a spade with you and make sure that end is open. If your not sure where it is look for the damp area. If you have a tile probe that will help you locate it quicker.

There has to be some sort of access in order to pump out the tank. Of course my knowledge of septic systems is from back in the 70's. I doubt there have been many changes over the years on storing a big box of poop

I have a couple of smaller, white, inlet valves that stick out of the ground that are more in line with where the drain field tubes are but maybe they can access the tank through these. Not really sure

Many times they will bury them in dirt to keep them from freezing. Best to pump them now so you can get some activity going before winter and not have them freeze up. Another option is to get some digester and flush down the toilet. Will help break up anything that may be sitting in there and give you more space.

Notifications must “expire” over time. Had over 200 last week or so and I didn’t check in for a couple days and I’m it dropped down to 130.

Recently they've passed a bunch of new regulations for septic tanks. Ours (box & 3 laterals) is not to current code, but was grandfathered in. Eventually we'll have to fork over $15-20K for a new one that meets current requirements.
