Basketball recruiting update

I think it will be.

1. Colivin/Buckley
2. Diante
3. Gilstrap
4. Brackins
5. Hamilton

Now thats's a winning basketball team

Only problem is that Diante will have to dramatically improve his 3pt shot in this lineup. I know we'll have Lucca and Wes off the bench, but Mac loves the 3 ball, and this lineup doesn't have a lot of 3 pt shooters.....of course it also depends on Colvin and Gilstrap's abilities.

i could also see that same lineup but maybe Garrett at Point Colvin at the two. same lineup jst a switch up or positions

Hamilton is pretty doggone good long-term solution at the 5. He has good feet and hands, he learns really quick, and he improves extraordinarily well for a guy that's 7'0" 265.

Hamilton is great, and I have very high hopes for him in the next 3 years. Even if he only improves moderately, he is already good as a solid 5 when you have a stud 4 (Brackins) on the court.

That said, I don't think it is wise to rely on 1 guy for 4 years. Especially since it usually takes 5s more time to develop into solid contributors (I think Hamilton is the exception rather than the rule).

I also do like the idea of having a more athletic team...it's just sometimes you need the bigs, depending on the opponent. While our athleticism would cause mismatch problems, our lack of a big could potentially cause mismatches for us.

I dont think it will really matter as to what positions they play, They will both probably run the point at times.

There is some trouble with that. If he gets his shooting to be consistently strong, then it could be a nice lineup that way. If not, he's another slasher, but still not a shooter.

Until the guy can consistently finish, or at least hit the rim, I don't see him being productive at the 2 spot. He's done nothing, minus 1 or 2 games, that shows he's capable on the offensive end of the floor. I really hope I'm wrong. Sorry to derail the thread.

Anyways, I do like the outlook of some of these recruits. It really seems like it frees up what we can do as a team. Our lineups would be able to change many different ways making our team have a variety of looks. That is all assuming we get everyone we want and they play to the potential we all hope they will.

There really isnt too many true 5s in the Big 12 right now though

ppl dnt get all worked up about diante playing the 2 because im sure he will be handling the ball most. jst because hes the 2 doesnt mean he is the go to 3 pt shooter on the floor at all times.

even if colvin runs the point for the majority of the time that lineup is on the floor, i would assume we would try to take advantage of athleticism and speed. ik its not mcdermotts game, but he would be dumb to not let them try and run the fast break

McDermott will open his system to more fast break/transition maneuvers when he's got the ballhandlers to make it work.

Ya, i've heard that McD wants to have a very athletic starting 5 next year.

How do you figure?

Assuming Craig goes pro early, than we would have 1 open spot. Currently we have zero open spots, and that is assuming that Gilstrap doesn't get 2 years
Here we go again. I have said repeatedly: I don't know how, but we are going to get two more commits in '10. I refuse to answer anymore posts about this, this is just ridiculous. I don't know where the others scholarship is coming from!!!!!!!!! Understand?

I don't think people are getting worked up because they are afraid DG won't be handling the ball a majority of the time, I think they are more concerned with him at the 2, we wouldn't really have any outside threats to shoot allowing teams to sag off on defense and make it harder for Brackins to have room to operate in the post. Again, if Colvin and Gilstrap can shoot from outside, that wouldn't be as big of a concern.

i was saying he will be handling the ball and what i am getting at is that if that is the lineup during a game im sure we wont be trying to get DG an open look for 3 so we dont need to worry about his "inconsistent" shooting

Well from what i've heard thats where he will be playing.

If what you are hearing is coming from the players and/or coaches.
Ask them to focus on the task at hand in producing wins this year, rather than what could be next year. They will have plenty of time for that in the off season.

Nothing against Kelm, because I really wanted him in the beginning but, I would much rather have Ejim. Our team DESPERATELY needs athleticism. Not saying Kelm isn't athletic, but we need more Colvin and Brackins type athleticism and less Eikmeier, Staiger and Hamilton athleticism (nothing against those guys as they will be great Cyclones down the road).

Does GMac just prefer to not play with a typical 5 man or what? I'm really hoping to see some good true post players show up on these lists, as I think they are very valuable. Hamilton is really the only one we have now.

Don't get me wrong, because I too prefer the athletic 4's, but it really lets them operate more freely if you can have a solid 5 down low.

We've got Hamilton and the big guy from NW Iowa. I'm not really sure you want more 5's than that on your roster.
