Some random trees down and our neighbors trampoline is in the horse pasture here in Monticello. No tornado, but straight line winds of 50+ mph that were making our house creek something terrible

Feel terrible for those who have to deal with property loss and damage...no fun! Feel worse for those who have to deal with injury or loss of someone they care for or about! But wow...they started talking about this 3 or 4 days ago...amazing science!

Speaking of which, the next round appears to be four days out. About the same area too.

where is the winter storm warning?
Looks like just west of Waterloo. The weather maps are colorful this afternoon. Purple one is just a county and a half west of the red one.

I’m looking ahead but I’m always interested in how the casualties work out in these types of northern events compared to comparable events in the South.

Northerners have an advantage with basements to go to. But, that doesn't matter when you are watching it come right at you from your living room window. The lack of respect for these storms always baffle me.

I think it’s more the “it won’t happen to me. I’ll be fine mindset.” And I’d be lying I’d I said I never thought that way.

For those in Ames looking at upcoming repairs...Waddle Exteriors in Story City does good work and has great communication as you're going through the process.

They did my roof after the deracho and had them do some minor siding and gutter work recently since they were great to work with.

Don’t give your contractor any of your advance insurance money until after you are satisfied that all the repairs have been made. A neighbor of mine gave his fly by night contractor part of the advance. The contractor skipped town, left his wife and bought his new honey a $5,000 diamond with those proceeds and then declared bankruptcy.

My agent has recommended TMJ in the past and I think Hansen’s is also good. Any others? BTW any damage we have is light. But we also have an old roof so who knows.
