Good analysis. Now add Green.
I’m pretty sure he’s been one of the most productive two way guys this year in the NBA.. I can’t imagine what we look like right now with him here. We were literally one phone call away and that call almost didn’t happen.

I bet we copy the current B1G tourney as they have 14.. 1-4 get double byes and start on Thursday, 5-10 get single game byes and start on Wednesday. 10-14 play Tuesday

Yeah I saw the ACC one- and that's what made me think of the question.

ACC goes Tuesday-Saturday so i suppose we could, too.

I haven't heard, is the Big 12 going to 20 league games next year or sticking at 18? I'd prefer 20 even when we have 12 teams, but it should definitely be 20 with 14 teams.

You're hurting your league by not giving yourself more Q1/Q2 win opportunities. This is a super hypothetical, but imagine if we had 18 games this year with the 14 teams, and our 5 extras were BYU, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech (these are random other than BYU and KU, but I'd hope the league gives us Kansas and K-State twice next year). Maybe you drop the BYU road game so you only go 6-4 in your home/aways, get stuck with only playing Texas and West Virginia on the road, you get Cincinnati and UCF at home, and all of a sudden your Q1 record starts to look a lot worse as you stack up a bunch of useless Q3 wins (or potential Q3 losses). Hypothetically, we need Cincinnati, UCF, and BYU to either improve or become total cellar dwellers where they're a guaranteed win. Adding a handful of Q3 games where you could still maybe lose does nothing positive for you.

TJ almost put together this roster --

Two "pure" PGs, one experienced in the American (Williams) and a would-be stud freshman (Lipsey)

Four excellent SGs in Green (the alpha-dog scorer), Holmes (with the old man YMCA game), Kalscheur (an excellent 3&D perimeter player), and Grill (another excellent 3&D perimeter player)

Two versatile wings, one a finesse guy (Kunc) and the other a brawler (King)

The best pure "5" we've had since Jameel McKay (Osunniyi) and... well... Big Rob is Big Rob

That is approximately a top-five team if it is healthy.

No official word yet. I hope they go to 22 conference games when the new new Big 12 (of 12) settles in.

**** we’d be top 10 with just a healthy Grill! If the stars would’ve aligned this year we are in a different world offensively and that’s literally all this team needs. Oh well, I guess I’ll take the 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament as a nice consolation prize and wait for our top 10 class to come in next year ;)

The way I see it is this team has something like four flaws...

(1.) Stay healthy

(2.) Need a guy who can "go get a bucket" as CW likes to say

(3.) Backup PG (sorry, but Holmes just isn't a guy who want bringing the ball up the court)

(4.) Big man depth (not trying to trash Jones here, but there are better backup centers in the Big 12)

TJ had 3/4 of those (almost) locked down. Soooooooo close.

Yeah and even with #4, Ward was unable to make it to Ames until way late due to his visa status. Those months were no doubt critical when trying to pickup new schemes and philosophies

Hard to believe an 18-13 team (hypothetically 9-9 in big 12) would end up as a low 4 or high 5 seed. Not saying you’re wrong.

Take a deep breathe and repeat after me: at the point of obviously being in the tournament, it doesn’t matter anymore. There is no world that has existed in a long long time where the committee is like,

“X team 18-13, Y team 20-10, Y team more wins and less losses they get a higher seed”

This (with the small correction that 11-14 play on Tuesday). The limiting factor is T-Mobile Center. They can realistically only host 4 games a day so you have to play it so that there are 4 games or fewer in each round.

Williams would be so helpful right now. A big PG. Not sure on his finishing but even if he could handle pressure and penetrate that would help a lot

It's no secret either that Tamin has had some rough lapses. Those probably would have been milder if he had been able to take a backup role
He has so much pressure on him as a freshman PG in one of the best conferences ever. Holmes is our second best ball handler and he's shaky at best against pressure. He's definitely made some bad passes the last few games but like you said he could use a little help. Would be an amazing backup PG. This will payoff next year though!
