Favorite Sandwich Shop?

Schlotzky’s if you can find one. Des Moines is obviously Manhattan Deli.

I used to live in the Twin Cities…. boy do I miss Schlotzky’s. Don’t think there’s any in Iowa at all though. Twin Cities might be the closest one to Cedar Rapids??

Twin Cities.

Best Subs: Erberts and Gerberts.
Best Banh Mi: Mi-Sant (These are terrific and I highly recommend them)

Maybe the best sub I've ever had is from Bo Diddley's in St. Cloud, MN. Seems like a weird place to have that good of a sub. Maybe I've just been really hungry every time I've been there.
Bo Did's is the bomb. I'm from central MN and have had countless Bo Did subs. Great hippy vibe as well.

Most memorable time at Bo Diddley's was after bar one Thursday - big line, had just ordered our food when a huge biker dude yells to the whole place "Anyone mind if we put in Meatloaf (Band)". Still drunk, I yelled back immediately F*** yeah I mind, I hate Meatloaf. End of the discussion and went on to enjoy a great sub.

It’s NE if you divide the state in 4. I recognize Central thirds and divide the state into 9 sections roughly.

Mason City, Grundy Center, Osage, Charles City are all north central Iowa.

To me, northeast Iowa requires being in the Driftless Area
I'm from the area. Charles City in fact. Agree 100% with what you're saying about Charles City being more similar culturally/geographically to Mason City or Clear Lake to the west, Iowa Falls to the south west, Waverly and oelwein to the south etc, than our more easterly NEIC towns Decorah, Cresco, Waukon etc. Even New Hampton 20 minutes or so to the east has a 'different ' feel to it

They don’t have them in the Twin Cities anymore either? Haven’t lived there for almost 20 years now.

Btw…. I’ve regretted moving back to Iowa ever since.

In Dubuque my favorite is Jersey Mikes. Not a lot of local sandwich places (or at least convenient for me).

When I lived in Clive, Palmer's was my go to sandwich place. Loved the Turnberry- smoked turkey with cranberry chutney cream cheese spread. Awesome. Plus they had great sweets - lemon bars, brownies and rocky road bars.

Makes my stomach growl!!!
Pickle barrel is trash. I'm sure you know what I mean

That Rochester station gave me identity issues as a kid. Didn’t know what state I was growing up in.
I watched kttc and kaal which was Austin, MN I believe. The sports segment was a nightmare trying to figure out which state certain schools were located in

I think it’s better than it was 10 years ago, but it’s definitely the stepchild of the region.
Agree, sadly. I have fonder memories of Cc from my childhood than feelings about the town I go back and visit occasionally as an adult now

Chucktown still has more shopping than Cresco or New Hampton (it’s close to double the population of either), but I would wager both have higher home values.
Agree with this. My friends that are still in the area tell me it's a bit time slum lord community

I get a little gaggy thinking of all the Subway I used to eat. It just seems nasty now.

**** you. I bet Al could get you a FANTASTIC deal on a new Saab.

Also, I’m legitimately interested if I’ve met Al before or even partied with him. Al, you smoke any hash back in the day up in Mitchell County?
My first car may have been a hand-me-down 9000.

And drugs are illegal, sir. I have never broken those laws. Especially not in rural Mitchell County. Never. Ever.
