I love Jones when he plays like 2:08 of this vid. Problem is he has a lot of bad moments too. Stop forcing shots and trying to do too much and I think he can be successful In his role.

So you think this is the dumbest thread in CF history?
We'll, here's what I think is dumb. Having the audacity to think you know more than the staff who took a 2-22 program to the Sweet 16 the very next year and to the top of the Big 12 the following year (with wins over 4 top 10 teams). But you keep on sharing your critique of this staff. I'm sure they are soaking up all of your helpful feedback.
I havent been impressed with him when he's played. Defensively he seems to constantly lose his guy and doesnt seem overly active around the basket. But it's hard to assimilate when you don't get minutes.
That said, I wish we would roll with Gabe, Grill, Lipsey, Holmes Osun then Kunc, King , and Watson. BRE with sparing minutes when Osun and King are both in foul trouble.
I have few problems with the way Jones place on defense. Sometimes he comes too far out of the post to try and double team and gives up a dunk, but at least he isn't a hack master like last year. My problem with Jones is that when someone feeds him in the post he is going to shoot and most likely miss horribly. Now I have not watched every minute of every game, but so far this year I have seen him throw the ball out of the post twice. He has tried to force shots up against double and triple teams. His turnover rate has to be the highest on the team. I have no doubt that he does a great job of blocking out, and he hustles like crazy, but King and Shoon give a lot more potential to score without turning the ball over. When he gets the ball 8-10 feet from the basket and tries to work his way in it is comical.I wish everyone would stop beating up Robert Jones. Sometimes I feel like I am not watching the same game as half the people on here.
I understand he is in an offensive "slump". I also understand that some of those "bunnies" weren't really that easy. Let's not forget Gabe and Grill's offensive slumps that lasted games upon games. TJ had faith in them that they would come around, as it appears he also does for Jones. But, even when he is missing the "bunnies" I love his aggression. He is keeping the other team honest is covering our big men.
But I truly do not understand the ragging of his defense! Do you not see the multiple responsibilities he takes on. Top of the key, underneath the bucket, weak side and baseline! He is hustling to cover EVERY possession. He is blocking out EVERY possession. He is getting down the court EVERY possession. When a team plays this level of aggressive defense, getting beat is the risk. And every player on the court gets beat every game, but not more often than we force the turnovers!
Let's be kind and appreciate every member of our team...... as TJ does.
Robert Jones still has big games to come! But what he is contributing in the mean time I appreciate!
I don't pretend to know more than the coaching staff but love the false hyperbole coming from the Defenders. What I have stated is that there is clear empirical evidence that Bob is a substandard player and that King is/would be a much better option. Given Bob's difficulties is perplexing and inexcusable for the staff not to try King at the 5. If it works as well as I suspect it would, that is a HUGE swing in productive minutes. We are talking about 2-3 (potential) close game wins.
I stand behind that assessment as well as the assertion the staff has bungled this part of the rotation. Obviously the staff has done a wonderful job crafting the team, getting players to buy in, coaxing maximal effort, instilling a tough brand of defense, and getting the guys to play as a team. That doesn't mean their above reproach for making decisions, and repeatedly, that really aren't defensible.
Talking about the team is what the message board is for. Both good and bad.
Based one good game maybe? That's silly.Never forget the guy on here who said Jones was better than Homan offensively.

He should but he won't. Why? If the coaching staff was paying attention that would have happened weeks ago.
That's not BREs fault as I think he's busted his ass to make himself better. The fault is with the coaches for playing someone ill-equipped to contribute at the Big 12 level that many minutes.
You absolutely are stating, emphatically, that you know more than the coaches when it comes to Rob's minutes.I stand behind that assessment as well as the assertion the staff has bungled this part of the rotation.
OK, explain to me how Homan shot 43% in his senior year and 44% for his career at ISU. He was not a stretch 5 so all of his shots were point blank. Homan‘s last game was his best game at ISU and most people only remember his best game at ISU. He was a tough rebounder and defender but he was not a good offensive player. He averaged 13 points per game in his senior year but he attempted about 12 shots a game and only made 43%. He was a good player overall but offense was not his forteBased one good game maybe? That's silly.
It’s not a stat that’s seems to be tracked in college basketball but I have to imagine it’s negativeSerious question... What is his +/- rating when he is on the court. Bob at times struggles to finish at the rim but we would really kind of be screwed without him. Osunni would probably foul out of the majority of the games midway through the second half without someone to replace him periodically.
Lol you scream no no no bob at your TV?His forced shots are a DeFacto turnover. I can't tell you how many times a game I scream no, no, no Bob. Maybe one out of ten times I'm wrong and he scores. His missed shots are never rebounded as there is no one to rebound them and he often turns it over before shooting. He should only shoot when he gets a wide-open look like that fast break after the steal yesterday. I cheered very loudly for BRE after that play as he deserved it. If he did that his shooting percentage would be well above 50% like our other bigs. I appreciate the good things he does, but right now (and in his two years here) his poor decisions on offense offset the good. I would imagine there might be a big cheer in Hilton if BRE passed the ball back out once.
Yes, and get rid of the negative posts about T.J. Otzelburger. He is a wonderful person and an awesome coach! ️I wish everyone would stop beating up Robert Jones. Sometimes I feel like I am not watching the same game as half the people on here.
