NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

If I'm Mahomes and Kelce I am low key burning inside thinking about the WR room. Mecole still not healthy after missing months (goodbye this offseason btw), JuJu knee injury (you can walk this offseason too tbh) and Toney hurting his ankle without taking contact (incredible). Four catches combined by the three of them.

Thank God we have two weeks to improve our health.

But this adds to Mahomes greatness. WR 1 MVS, WR 2 Skyy and WR 3 Marcus Kemp. A lot of snaps from Jody Fortson. What a group!
Did you see what happened to JuJu? I never saw what actually happened. Toney you could tell right away he got hurt his foot got stuck in the ground when he tried to juke.

Hopefully at least JuJu and Toney get healthy. Watson should be back as well as he was just out because of illness.

KC had 7 rookies playing and contributing last night. 12 first and second year players if I counted right.

That is all front office and coaching.

Love the redemption story for the special teams last night as well. Skyy Moore coming through on the return after being demoted after the fumbles and Butker hitting the game winner after some struggles during the season.

Also, what a performance from all the rookies especially the rookie DBs. I mean it probably isn't being talked about enough that the chiefs had 4 rookie DBs in there against Burrows, Chase, and Higgins and really held their own. Sure Chase and Higgins had some unbelievable catches but they aren't going to be shut out and they had two INTs.

Pacheco with some nice catches as well.

I did not see when he got hurt but I did see a tweet last night JuJu was struggling to walk up stairs after the game.

I'm not too concerned about the WRs. Mahomes isn't going to have a ton of time to throw against Philly, so I could see them attacking Philly with the running game, with short timing passes, and a heavy dose of Kelce. I think they'll be able to sneak Pacheco out of the backfield into the area Kelce vacates for some catches as well.

If they can get that working, play-action should open up and the WRs should have some decent 1v1 chances as the game goes on.

I was just going to come on here to say the rookies were unfuckingbelievable last night and deserve a massive heap of praise.

The problem is without any WRs that are a threat, the Eagles (who are great on defense) can key on Kelce and the running game. This is what the Bengals did and the Chiefs were lucky to come away with a win. Pacheco didn't gain much on the ground and Kelce didn't do much after halftime.

I was wondering the other day how many 7th round picks have been impact players for their teams this year as KC has Watson and Pacheco playing big roles and of course Purdy in SF. The Chiefs 2022 draft class has been really good. Both 1st round picks McDuffie and Karlaftis have been solid, 2nd round you have Moore who has had his struggles but the potential is still there and Cook has played a fair amount too. 3rd rounder Chenal and 4th rounder Williams also got a fair amount of playing time as well. Chiefs have done a pretty solid job drafting the past few years really and will have to keep doing so with all the money they have committed to their main players as they won't be able to go out and grab many high priced free agents most years.

They are falling into the model of healthy, sustained success. Get the QB right. Spend on the O-line when necessary (Thuney) . Spend on the right guys to keep (Kelce, CJ) Draft well (Last couple of years have been really good). Turn and burn the young guys and let others overpay for their second or third contracts (Ward). Grab smart FA deals that don't hamstring the team (MVS) Get young vets on one-year prove it deals (Juju) and older vets with still a little left in the tank on cheap ring-chasing deals (Dunlap). It's kinda how the Patriots did it all those years.

My biggest concern is how they eventually replace Kelce and someday, Andy Reid.

Yeah, I agree that the Eagles are going to do that. They have a great defense and it's going to be a tough task. And I'm not saying to abandon the WRs. Reid is going to have to get the WRs some touches on crossing and out routes to loosen things up. Dragging Kelce across the defense as a decoy is great way to occupy a LB or safety.

I guess my point is that Mahomes hasn't really taken a lot of big shots down the field this year. So, while they would love to have another level on offense, the lack of a big time WR doesn't really change what they've been doing well all year.

Its a similar concept to what the Pats did when they had their run with Brady. As far as Kelce it is crazy to think that KC has had 2 of the best TE of all time between him and Tony Gonzalez. Were very fortunate to replace Gonzo with Kelce, probably will not have the same luxury when Kelce is done but there usually are some decent TE prospects in the draft that if they play in the right system can be a top 10 guy at their position. A lot of it is just having a coach and system that have a system that can develop and use a TE the way some teams are able to use them.

Saw this reply on Twitter. Think I have to agree. Nobody (except perhaps the mayor of Cincinnati) was “disrespecting” the Chiefs or expecting them to fold up and get trounced in the AFC title game.

A massive % of the bets came in for the Bengals last week. As for them being doubted, that's a matter of record.

I'm sorry the Burrowhead stuff is standard sports disrespect.

As for people manufacturing chips on their shoulders, that's also standard sports stuff. That's SOP for Jordan for example.

I hope I'm wrong but I think the Eagles are going to sh*tstomp KC.
Eagles are so well rounded we of course have the better quarterback but after that it's hard to find a positional advantage. Reid is typically terrific after a bye week though so hopefully he's got a great game plan and we see a healthier group
