Jeff Goodman has ISU #11

The problem with this team is that they can still go on long scoreless stretches. Would anyone be surprised if TT came in to Hilton and beat them Tuesday? I wouldn't.

I do think that the offensive floor is much higher than it was last year. Osun and Jones provide at least a threat inside that we didn't have. Grill is more consistent; Kalscheur is taking better shots. We are not totally dependent on IZB being able to dribble left and hit long 2's. The only way last year's team would have won the game on Saturday is if IZB was on total fire.

I'm honestly starting to wonder whether Jaz has lost his starting spot. King has been really good.
How can you say that much about the improvement in our offense and not mention the catalyst?

I am super excited about our team and agree with others here that we are better than last year, but 11 feels a little high to me right now. Some of our wins (namely UNC, Nova and Baylor) not looking as good as they once did and that beat down in Carver still stuck in my head.

All of that said, I still don’t think anyone wants to see us in March. We are clearly capable of beating anyone on any night.

That game was 2015.

All ISU top 5 wins, for reference:

George’s senior year was 2015?? Now that it’s 2023, I feel old as balls.

Great points. I've thought similar, last year IZB could put the team on his back and that mid ranger was automatic. Kudos to the returners for finding spots that work for them and for the new folks (Tamin's drive, Holmes floater, etc). So agree, seems we have more ways to score and Grill much more consistent (and lie defense seems a saltier this year, too).

I had the same thoughts about Jaz....when he went out a huge "oh crap" but other guys have stepped up and coaches have adjusted. When he returns definitely they will have to figure out how to use him, but also not disrupt things that are working. What I do like about this team is the egos seem so low that coaches can adjust game by game and guys don't pout, etc.

But it does go to show that there is a very fine line from 0-3 to 3-0.
This. Every game can be a huge win, but every game could be a loss too. Maintaining mental fortitude every game, all year, will be critical.

And lets all not jump off the roof when they inevitably lose some close games. Because it will happen.

Baylor will be back. Those 3 guards, no way they dont end up top half.

They hopefully figure out a way to finish things off.

Yeah there was weirdness with calls but ISU tends to get careless and impatient with the ball at times on offense.

IMO We are a better offensive team without Jaz on the floor but defensively he is huge for us. I just wish Jaz would be more inclined to let it fly more, the dude can shoot.

I think we are a solid 9 deep with Jaz back. Watson may be a step behind Kunc and King in experience, but I have full confidence in him when he hits the floor, and Ward might be the most talented 10th man we've ever had.
Speaking of Ward. He hasn't gotten any minutes in the past two games and in Saturday's game he was wearing warmups. Top and bottom. Is he injured or just not getting any minutes?

Not sure what others think, but Tech game feels like it could be a problem. Classic trap game - especially if they’ve got people out. Would be easy to get caught up in whatever this weeks ranking is and look ahead to KU game. Feel like TJ is less likely to let that happen than prior coaches, though.

Regardless, even a split this week is big. Win 2 and we’re in top 10 with a legitimate shot to win the conference.

Last year they were out some key players as well and really mucked up the game to make it ugly. We shot 30% from the floor and put up 25 threes while making 20% of em.

I expect Tech to play similarly tomorrow and we cannot fall into the trap of chucking threes.
