NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

This is where I am. Everyone refusing to talk about the playoffs or football generally almost because of this sad event. A million more horrific things happen in this world every day and the world does not stop. The 'players give their life' thing was also out of hand yesterday. Again, lots of jobs far more dangerous, and oh yeah, paying 48k per year.
Another thing I've thought about..

If this didn't happen on Monday night with a national audience and two good teams, would it have had the impact it has had?

I have a hard time thinking if this happened on a CBS broadcast at noon when the game is shown in local markets only that it would have had the impact its having.

I have a hard time believing a vast majority of players don't want to get back out there.

Some talking head certainly shouldn't be the lead speaker on it.

The impact would have been lessened as they would have been able to cut to another game. Frankly it was all the silence and dumbstruck commentators trying to fill all that time that added to the situation. Had they been able to go to a different broadcast, they could have just cut in with updates instead.

Some icy cold mother ******* in here.
Nah. Just realistic. It was a horrible incident, but the reporter comparing it to 9/11 is way, way over the top. How many of our jobs would cancel a week of work if a coworker suffered a serious on the job accident? It doesn't diminish Hamlin's injury in any way to play this weekend's games. When John Clayton died, did anyone float ESPN stopping broadcasting for a week? Of course not. Perspective is important here.

You guys all work in the same dynamite and matches factory or what?

Agreed.
And not to be crass, but Hamlin isn't dead. Did he suffer an horrific injury? Yes, absolutely. But he's still fighting. Many of us have had coworkers get injured or die suddenly. I definitely have in my career. And it's tough, and sobering, because one day, you're saying "see you tomorrow" as you head out to the parking lot, and that's the last time you ever talk to them. But even then, the band plays on. You don't forget, but you don't bring everything to a screeching halt, either. If individuals who are having a particularly rough go want to hit pause, themselves, that's fine, but the world does not stop.

I've never had a coworker killed on the job so can't really relate to that. Maybe your office is a lot rougher environment than mine.

It happens. People get hit by cars, have heart attacks, have accidents, etc. I remember a guy that I worked with who put in his two week notice. Didn't give a reason, but it had been obvious for some time that he was pretty sick. He never acknowledged it, or at least didn't tell many people, but it was widely suspected that he had cancer. Said goodbye and walked out the door on his last day. Dead within a week.

Many people deal with tragedy and loss in their workplace, and it can be very rough. What happened to Hamlin is awful, and I'm sure his teammates are very concerned and emotional about it, but it's not something that other, non-football players can't empathize with. It's not so unique that the rest of us can't know what it's like.

So, when some talking head compares it to 9-11, I feel very comfortable in saying that she should slow the **** down.

Smart move by the Bears. Don't screw up by winning this Sunday. Get that #1 or #2 pick.

with how much Fields gets banged up and injured, I don't forsee him having a very long career. He got hurt in the Detroit game and was forced to be a pocket passer, which didn't go well.

Well if they actually get an Offensive Line & some receivers for him with the money & draft picks they have available then hopefully he won't have to run as much or get sacked all the time. Other than the RB's & Kmet he was pretty much playing with crap this season.

Offensively, they have been decent at times. Once they traded away Roquan Smith (and a D-lineman that I'm forgetting) their defense became terrible.

Fields needs to learn how to protect himself a lot better. Every time he slides, he still gets hit (way less for other QBs). He also was getting beat up in college (see CFP semifinal).

As a Bears fan, I unfortunately agree. If Fields has to be a runner to be successful, you have to go all in on that style of offense and that means having back up QBs who can also run, they won't be as good running as Fields, but you have to be able to at least maintain the same offensive concepts with your back up. Maybe look at drafting someone like Dorian Thompson-Robinson this year.

So have they announced anything about the Bill vs Bengals game? Are they just waiting to see how this weekend shakes out?

Believe 5 of these 15 can get in:

For my money, it's
Freeney
Revis
Allen
Wayne
Hester

Andre Johnson and Joe Thomas are up there as well.

I'm not sure if Hester will make it, but I sure think he should

Other than it won't be played this week, there has been nothing.

My guess is they will wait to see what happens with the week 18 games. If both Buffalo and Cincinnati win, wonder if they will push back the playoffs and allow them to finish their game since the top 3 seeds can all be impacted.

Just my thoughts...I have no idea what they'll do. As a Bengals fan and knowing they can be dangerous at home or on the road I'm OK with whatever they decide.

That's kind of what I was thinking might happen
