NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

This is eerily similar to what happened at the 2020 Euros when Christien Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and CPR was administered. Hopefully it ends up as well as that situation did with everyone safe.

I was just thinking earlier today when watching a college game that it's amazing there aren't deaths each year with as fast and big as these guys are. The endurance, strength, equipment, etc is just amazing to protect them.

So tough to see, thoughts and prayers with him.

I show my ER doctor wife all this. Her conclusions (or at least my paraphrasing of them) --

"Serious cardiac events are extremely rare with young men, especially world-class athletes, but they are not impossible. Trauma to the chest can induce them because it jostles the heart and puts more pressure on it, but usually only in people with preexisting conditions and risk factors for heart problems."

"My guess for something that could threaten his life after a hit like that would be a freak aortic dissection. This is when the aorta, the main artery leading from your heart to the rest of your body, is damaged. It can detach from the heart or perforate during intense trauma, which leads to rapid blood loss and death within minutes unless you're in an ER with a good trauma surgeon right now. They're most common in high-speed car accidents without a seatbelt being worn. Supposedly that was how Princess Diana died -- she was in the backseat not wearing her seatbelt when the violence of the crash tore her aorta. She never had a chance of being saved."

Speculation from very little information, obviously, but I thought I would share.

I had turned away right after the play and came back to this. Not sure what to do, call it a tie and just let them regroup for a week.

Blows to the chest can have very bad outcomes. Maybe a pre-existing condition.

Being so close to medics saved him, hopefully the same thing happens tonight

Reminded me of when Keyontae Johnson (florida basketball) collapsed a few years ago.
