They say our brains arent fully developed until 25. Makes sense with the stupid risks we took back in those days.

Well some of the drives to work were well past 25! Great thing about covid normalizing wfh in bad weather for people who don't need to be on the roads. Tbf to myself, that bad xmas drive was not foreseen. Wasn't supposed to be bad but got into rural WI/IL and was not great and plow hadn't been through in forever it seemed like. But was already over halfway and had a phone so I decided I'd keep going until I got stuck or made it.

Elliot got me, burst water supply line in my garage ceiling that feeds my upstairs washer and laundry room sink. Never has froze before and I even added insulation in the garage ceiling about 5 years ago. At least the plumber will get to work in a garage and not outside.
We had lines that would freeze during cold weather and the fix was to remove insulation and put in vents on interior so the warm air could get into the wall and keep the lines warm. Worked.

Updated. Hwy 30 in the purple.

I notice almost all the local cameras seem to have been knocked offline.

Also, interesting that US-69 remains completely covered all through des moines, when the other DSM roads have generally shown to be getting better on that map.

Was originally planning to drive to NW Iowa this afternoon but that is now on hold. Given the current road conditions there today not sure if tomorrow will be able to either unless things significantly improve and now see we could get some snow on Monday too

For NC iowa, the blizzard conditions are supposed to subside tomorrow at 6 am. Still a windchill warning, but at least maybe driveable.

Some dude that now's a lady for the next week.

Too elderly to run these days but your comment reminded me that my winter running gear included a strip of terry cloth for insulating that body part. Nature's protection, the turtle in the shell act, isn't enough for REALLY cold days.

The last I heard the snow was supposed to be light on Monday, but we'll see. I'm thinking travel will improve tomorrow afternoon into Sunday.

It'll work out over the long run, but yeah, nowhere near cashflow-positive on the unit this year

Was thinking too the videos aren't that bad, you can still see the road and see doen the road. Makes me think some of the times I drove to work or one time home for Xmas I maybe shouldn't have been. Little Celica plowing through drifts just white knuckling.
Ha, just gave me a flashback to driving from Dubuque to Twin Cities a hundred years ago. Drive was Celicas on Ice with CWW#1's '78 Celica sport coupe. Think that drive was when we named it "Seppuku" aka The Suicide Car. Worse. Bad. Weather. Drive. Ever. Miracle we made it. Probably should have driven the old Nova who's nickname was Conqueror of the Minnesota Winter, POS car but it always seemed to get through. Nova was also known as Car For Life, Cold Blooded POS (hard to start in cold weather) and F'ing POS Mobile along with many other mostly profane names.
