I'm sure running on the original Nurburgring would be way too dangerous in today's world. With today's tracks you may be able to widen a lane, add a runoff, etc. This would be nearly impossible on a 14 mile long track.
If I remember correctly, it's been at least 5 years since I've seen them race in Germany. The races were always boring and 1/2 empty.
Old school tracks like Monza and Spa are excellent. Monaco should have been killed a decade ago

Not sure if the bolded is referencing my post, if it is, I said the F1 circuit, tot the full, original layout. It’s too bad because the GP circuit would produce good racing.

There is also talk that Spa could lose its spot too, since F1 is reaching the limit of races they can put on the calendar. That would be a tragedy, imo. But F1 seems to be in the mindset that CART was in the late 90s/early 2000s. Let’s ditch our classic beloved tracks that create great racing so we can go to a temporary street circuit, that creates ho-hum racing, so we can be in a big glamorous city.

I remember hearing an interview with Carl Haas, of Newman Haas CART team one time talking about Road America. He said he didn’t like the track because there was nowhere to get a good dinner near the track.that is arguably one of the greatest American tracks. It’s in a rural area though, so that is bad.

Spa Francorchamps and Nurburgring are not near major metro areas, that seems to hurt their standing with F1 bosses as well as all new tracks seem to be dead center of a major metro area.

I don’t watch Enduro stuff but aren’t Audi and Cadillac big players in it? Is it possible they got pulled into F1 because of Audi? Either way I’d be pumped for a GM/Andretti team and I’m not sure that F1 can say no now.

Yeah Audi and Cadillac both have a big presence running WEC programs. With GM backing them I don't know if F1 can possibly say no to Andretti now.

The Andretti Cadillac might have a Honda power unit in the back. Honda has been talking about getting out so maybe GM ends up buying all the IP from Honda.

That would be interesting as I thought Red Bull was essentially snapping up all of Honda's knowledge when they announced they were starting up their own powertrain division.

I believe Red Bulls PU was still very much just a rebranded Honda (basically just RB in name). They even ran the Honda logo fairly predominantly on the car in Japan this year. I also doubt Red Bull has any interest in Andretti joining F1. Twill be interesting to see how this shakes out.

It doesn’t sound like any team has any interest in any new team joining up. They don’t want to share the pie.

I think the mid to lower tier teams have to see the benefit in overall dollars for having a “real” American team and the American money that would come with it. A GM backed Andretti isn’t Haas. The top teams are making enough they don’t care, they just want to stay on top.

There’s also the Euro “elitism” involved where they don’t want the sport to be heavily American. I don’t blame them to a certain degree.

I thought Red Bull, at least Horner, was in support of Andretti coming on board. Maybe Horner just said that because Toto Wolff is so against it.

As I was doing some searching today, I came across some snippets from Dec. 14th that I hadn't seen before and that is Ford is showing interest of getting back to F1 at least in some capacity.

Not sure how good that link is, but just google "Ford return to F1" and a lot of places are reporting it. I wonder if that has anything to do with GM jumping on with Andretti.

At this point,, I think it would be a bad look for F1 to deny Andretti a spot. F1 recently said they were interested in adding new Manufacturers, so this seems another challenge F1 set, that Andretti was able to pull off. Beyond that, it would jus be that the powers that be don't like Andretti. As AgronAlum posted above while I was posting. There is the Euro Elitism involved.
