Congratulations to Earle Bruce

As for this thread, no ISU football coach has been better positioned for success than CMC.

Facilities, revenue sharing, TV exposure, Des Moines metro growth, institutional support, and a down conference where you didn't play several top 10 teams each year.
It warmed up enough that you came out of hibernation. You slipped up and have removed any doubt that you are a Troll with your final point that the B12 is a "down conference without Top 10 teams". A cold front has just entered Iowa and a low of 17 for tomorrow so if you don't go back to the pond we may not hear from you again. Which would be unfortunate as your drivel does provide a certain degree of humorous entertainment.

Yes because other 'metro' areas have not grown or made more attempts to attract young people.

You really are a troll and should be banned.

I love how anyone that isn't still on team Campbell is automatically a troll.

I want ISU football to be fundamentally sound, competitive, and entertaining to watch.

I can show facts and use logic, point to specific lingering problems, and heck, just notice that this is not enjoyable football, and that makes us automatically unwelcome.

I sat through every home game of a 0-10-1 season and even a couple of the road games. Had season tickets through 3 different coaches. Been to several of the bowl games. Been a fan for 35 years.

What a sad state of affairs we have today where everyone wants to only hear harrumphs.

Nah, we’re just tired of you. There’s a reason why you aren’t allowed on certain forums here.

I was curious as to how to determine the "best" ISU football coach. Winning percentage? Maybe but what if the other teams on the schedule were weak. Think of Bill Snyder at K-State how he padded his resume in his early years by scheduling very sketchy non-conference teams. So, I went back and checked the times an ISU coach won COY awards in-conference which would be based on his peers and media evaluation. Big 8 started the COY in 1948 when the conference was formed. The Big 6 ran from 1928 thru 1947 and did not include OSU and CU. Mike Michalske finished 2nd with one loss to OU in 1944 and 3rd in 1943, all other years ISU was at the bottom end. The Big 8 ran from 1948 thru 1995. ISU COY's were Clay Stapleton 1959, Johnny Majors 1971, Earle Bruce 1976 & 1977. The Big 12 started in 1996. ISU COY's were Dan McCarney 2004, Matt Campbell 2017, 2018 & 2020.

The only multiple COY's are Campbell (3) & Bruce (2). CMC has more but Bruce's came when the Big 8 was similar to the SEC today. It is without question that they are the two best coaches ISU has had. Johnny Majors was too but did not stick around long enough. Facts don't lie and this is subjective but I attended most home games in 1959 as a nine year old and held six season tickets for years so I witnessed all the COY winners. Stapleton was similar to Bruce in that they were all business, Majors was the most charismatic and Campbell and McCarney a combination. I give the nod to Campbell as best but if he lays another turd in 2023 not so much.

Not Earle Bruce but Johnny Majors related. Nice article about George Amundson. Even back then, the coaches didn't utilize All-American talent as well as they could. And the finish to the 1972 Nebraska game is pure ISU.

I don't remember Bruce at ISU, my first ISU football memory is from the Walden years, we played OU at home. It was cold, rainy, my dad took me down to between the locker room doors to see the teams come out after half. OU fans threw oranges at OU, my dad wanted to see the Boz and his multi-color mohawk. I don't think the OU starters saw the filed after half and we still got whooped...
That might have been the infamous "OU players with their pads off laying down eating hot dogs on the field" game.

Earle Bruce was a very Under Rated head coach who WON 24 GAMES IN THREE YEARS!
No coach has done that in my lifetime except for Earle Bruce!

May you REST IN PEACE EARLE...THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!

Cold and rainy was '86.
Hot dogs was '87.

And yes, ISU played OU at home two years in a row. The Big 8 did a reshuffle of schedules, which resulted in several H/H and A/A matchups in those seasons.

I was Shocked and Dismayed that Campbell actually HAD THE GUTS TO FIRE MANNING...I thought for sure that he would fire the O Line coach before Tom Manning!!

I was at Clyde Williams for that game and the deflating ending!!
I AGREE that was a Pure ISU ending!!

I don't think I attended the '87 game (didn't have tickets that season).

I'm weird, so I had to find the box score from that one (link below). Check out the chasm in rushing yards. Yeesh!
