I can't remember what game I was watching over the weekend where the announcers were talking about how the coaching staff though line splits were so important that they set up a framework of sorts in practice so that the line splits were exactly spaced every time.
TCU vs Baylor. Going from that to ISU really highlighted the gaps in formations and plays.

We’d be skewered nationally for firing Campbell this year, and rightfully so.
Why?

Say he's disrespectful and subordinate, and refuses to make any changes at all.

What then?

This season was absolutely insulting to ISU, the players, and the fans.

To still be doing the same stupid stuff in game 11 as game 1, failing, and then blaming execution? Really?

That's pathetic.

$4 million plus to St. Matthew to get outcoached by a high school coach.

$4 million per year to still look unprepared on offense, and to waste timeouts at the worst times.

MAC Matty can go back to where he belongs tomorrow.

To think he could ever manage a major program or NFL team is laughable.

No, because fans like like you guys who jump ship after one bad year. We all knew this was a rebuilding year. There are a lot of guys playing for the first time this year and a lot of freshman and sophomores playing
Is this really a valid reason? It's not like we are relying on a ton of true freshman or sophomores. And with NIL & portal young or inexperienced guys need to play at a high level.

Qb - RS So.
Rb - RS Jr or Frosh.
WR - RS Sr / RS Sr / Soph.
OL - RS Sr / RS Jr x 3 / RS Soph.
TE - RS Jr.

DL - RS Sr / RS Sr / RS Jr.
LB - RS Sr / RS Sr / RS Sr x2 & Fr
CB - So / RS Jr.
S - RS Sr / So / RS Fr & Fr.
P - Fr.
K - Fr.
DS - RS Sr.

The reality is when guys have been in our system 3 or more years (RS Soph)- they should be ready to step in.

The other reality is we should NEVER have to rely on a freshman kicker from day 1.

I am willing to give Campbell some slack because he has done a great job. But I think they really have some serious soul searching to do during the Dec/Jan period to get ISU FB back on track.

I voted for something else: I just want more wins. I don't care how it happens. If we look like Iowa but win 8 games, I'll take it. I'm not going to say "we have to play the way I say!" There are a million different ways to win a football game - to say that you only want to win it one way is stupid. You might say we're more likely to win doing different things and I wouldn't disagree. But ultimately I don't care how we win I just want to win consistently.
This x infinity. I don’t care if they’re “ugly” 6-3 wins or 48-45 wins either…they all count the same. Same thing with losses. Don’t give me this crap that “we’re close” by losing by 1,2,3 points. A loss is a LOSS. Lose by 1 or 101…they count the same.

They count the same but a blow out means ISU doesn't even belong on the field.

The talent is clearly there. Not only has ISU been close in all 11 games, they have outgained 10 of their 11 opponents. It doesn't get mentioned, but in reality, our red zone defense isn't that great. The defense seemingly always give up a TD at the end of the 1st half or late in the 4th quarter. No question the offense is the bigger problem. They struggle all 4 quarters.

If you thought we struggled this year, just wait till next year. The pipeline for o-line and wr's is not very good. Our recruiting has a lot of ?'s and concerned what NIL is going to do with some of our star players this year.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think we give Manning another year and make dramatic changes to the o-line.

Prior to this year, how much did our RS So QB, RS Jr or Fr RB, RS Jr TE, 2 of the RS Jr OL play?(almost half of our starters on offense, including some at the most important offensive positions on the field)

You can be in the program for 3-4 years but if you haven’t PLAYED, it doesn’t really mean much. Look at Iowa, you’d think Petras was an AA for as well as Kirk says he does in practice. When the lights come on he stinks!

What have you been an ISU fan for like 5 years or less? ISU is a bad hire post-Campbell away from another century of irrelevance. I'd rather bicker about not breaking .500 than go back to being resigned to 3rd straight 3-9 year with a recruiting class that sits behind Tulsa and UTSA

I think the stark difference in ST is the big difference, along with playing in what is probably the worst division in power conference football.

Iowa is so damn good on ST. Even with their offense, they actually can make the case they are playing complimentary football. ISU is just an elite defense being completely sabotaged by ST and offense.

To be fair, Taylor has masked A LOT of problems for Iowa. Prior to him they were really struggling in the punt game for several years. Yes, Iowa typically has strong special teams but Taylors ability to flip the filed is insane and we probably don't see that again in our lifetime. Dude is a generational talent, especially when you pair him with that defense.

That’s about exactly where I am at. I am amazed at this perspective that all is well and we just need to give it more time. We had great seasons previously and this coaching staff is above accountability according to certain individuals here. I have never said I think Matt C should be fired. I just think he needs some incentive clearly to enact some sweeping reforms.

I should not be surprised. There is a clearly a powerful cult of personality that accompanies certain coaches. This unrelenting adulation even transcends winning percentage. I love how emotional everyone got over the simple factual mention of the worst basketball season record in school history.

I wonder if a Larry Eustachy type scandal came up if these rabid followers would still be so supportive and attack anyone who suggests how the event is bad for Iowa State as a program?

The answer seems to be unequivocally YES they would.

That's true, I kind of forgot about their punting problems they had a few years. Fortunately for them every unit on the offense was better than they are now, and they had a pretty serviceable offense.

In addition to Taylor their return game has been good this year.

hahahahaahahahahaha

Something I noticed while scrolling through our football staff page(other than the amount of past players there, which was heart warming) is that Jake Waters is our only CQ of offense coach. We have 3 on defense. We have Jeff Mills, Josh Runda, and DeAndre Payne on defense.

We also have Heacock's son on the defensive staff so hopefully he can live up to his fathers legacy should Jon leave anytime soon
What exactly is the role of the QC staff on a football team?

ST coach - plain and simple. That has long been a pain in the butt more than the offense.

Secondarily, I'd like to see a different OC . I think Myers is fine overall - but I understand the frustration. For me though - he is a product of the scheme. A bad scheme is going to make an offensive line coaches' job harder. A good scheme makes it easierr.

Is he amazing? Probably not. But if the head of the fish is rotting, then cutting out the body doesn't solve the problem. If you told me there were three changes to the staff this is what I'd like:

1) ST coach hired, not an analyst but an actual 100% coach
2) An actual WR coach brought in. No more having our RB's and WR's share a coach because that's just a weird pairing
3) A New offensive coordinator

What exactly is the role of the QC staff on a football team?
It depends on the program and staff but at least form a defensive QC person what we typically do is a lot of film, a lot of the "analtyics" - practice and game prep stuff, etc.

Think of it as a combination of film analyst - mixed with Graduate assistant duties - mixed with kind of being a secretary in terms of the office type work. Essentially you are doing a crap ton of film break down, film study and the ins and outs of assisting the offensive or defensive staff.
