If he does fire manning, which I don’t think he will, he will hire from within. That’s what he does and has shown that. Not sure who that guy would be but that’s who would get the job, most likely.
I agree it's highly likely he gets someone he has a history with a la Caponi from West Virginia.

Edit: I feel like Candle getting the HC job at Toledo really slowed what we could have been offensively.

Firing people midseason throws red meat to the fanbase but rarely does a whole lot to change results.

And your demand that someone be publicly embarrassed is beyond stupid.
So what happens if CMC doesn't meaningfully change his staff after the season ends?

Curious, how bad do things have to get?

Disappointing 2021 followed up by a tragedy of 2022 where ISU wasted a championship effort by its defense.

The Camping World Bowl in 2019 is the textbook example of trying to do the same thing on offense all game without any adjustments.

Don't you remember? We were just so physically outmatched! That was the problem.

Meanwhile ISU had multiple NFL players playing in that game.

Notre Dame was better across the board and yes, a physical mismatch for ISU.

ISU looked small and slow and should have been in a lower bowl.

If he doesnt make the change this year, Campbell's seat should be pretty warm going into next season. He's earned the right to make that decision (and put himself on the hot seat) if he thinks the current staff are still the ones to ride with.

Dude you do realize that sometimes your team just loses to a good team right? For crying out loud we’re talking about a 10-2 Notre Dame team. They were flat out better and it obviously showed.
Yes, I am well aware of that Dude. That same team almost lost to UNI and Kansas that year at home. If Purdy didn't make the heroic play, there was no bowl that season.

That's total ********. They tried something different. They tried going under center. They tried huddling up. They tried simplifying reads.

Just because the end result was virtually the same does not mean the journey was.

Please also tell us about all of the OCs who have been fired this year and what their success was relative to the current year of output. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Manning is calling the exact game Campbell wants called. Manning's track record is pretty damn solid at this point in time. This year is by no means good...but the last few years have been pretty damn good.

Matt Campbell doesn't want the Texas Tech/Oklahoma/etc. offenses of scoring 45 and hoping to only give up 42. He shouldn't want that because we likely can't win playing that way. He wants us to give up 20 and score 24 by playing keep away from high octane offenses. Again...not good this year...but his track record is pretty damn good.

Long story short...Matt Campbell has had a pretty solid tenure at Iowa State and I would guess he knows a bit more about how he wants his program to look than some ass clowns on a message board. His way has yielded a program that isn't a national embarrassment so whatever he feels like doing should be a-ok with the fans.
The other teams have figured out CampbellBall, don't you get it yet? The old bargain version KF 24 to 20 football doesn't work anymore.

Our opponents have figured out that is what we do, and that we play for the second half. They know to take chances and get scores in the first half. They know ISU QBs only make two reads and don't make risky throws or run much. We're a dream to coach against if you have any defensive talent.

Don't you people get it? The mask is off. Even with NFL talent last year, we went 7 and 6. Why? BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE FIGURED ISU OUT AND HAVE ADJUSTED. We put virtually no pressure on the defense of our opponents. Our special teams graduated with Kene and Mevis.

You absolutely CANNOT play the same style of football as Iowa at ISU. You'll be going for the same recruits and falling short. Football is a passing game now thanks to rule changes, embrace it or lose.

You are far too forgiving and risk doing Prohm like damage to the program if he rides with Manning next year.

You think Heacock will stick around? How about recruits? Would you come to ISU as a dynamic, play-making wide receiver?

The only alternative to that is firing Campbell for not making a change or pollard overruling Campbell and making the change.

Either one of those would be a braindead decision.

Yep and in 2020 they almost lost to Baylor and then got a bunch of teams in weird or down years especially compared to this or last year.

What I’m learning in this thread is essentially we should’ve won every single game since the end of the 2017 season. Lol

I realize there was weirdness with the QB situation and it took until October to switch up the defense to be effective, but the further I get from the 2017 season and those receivers, the more I see that as a team that perhaps underachieved record-wise.

Was at the game, we were physically out-matched. When ND came out of the tunnel, I was “oh ****”. That and no answer for Claypool. CMC came back and changed strength coaches.

Why?

People need hope. What hope would there be to sell next year?

Remember, most fans view 2021 as a horrible underachievement.

Who should ISU go after in your wonderful world where CMC gets let go?

So he showed that he can, indeed, respond to obvious limitations.

Does that then mean CMC is the actual problem on offense?

I mean, it is hard to fire somebody that is doing almost exactly what you want them to do.

Because if that is the case, hooboy.

I will say my ISU text group went almost silent after the KSU loss.

Firing one of our most successful coaches after one bad year and one underperformance won't bring "hope" .

Nor would it help us when hiring the next guy (and retaining him if he has success).

I'd guess we would see a talent exodus for that decision as well.
