The tell tale sign to me that Manning has to go, is what adjustments have we seen to get the offense going? I haven’t seen anything different. Even if a change doesn’t work fine, but at least try something. Same plays different week. It’s the play calling, not the young players

Give it time.

We're fast approaching a point where offensive playmakers will not want to come play in a system like that.

Look at Iowa.

That's the future unless CMC makes drastic changes and embarrasses his friend.

Which do you think CMC will choose?

You know. Sadly, we all do.

When we run the ball, it’s obvious we are running the ball. They also run the same two run plays. If it’s Brock, it’s straight up the middle. If it’s Silas, it’s to the outside. The pass plays are all pretty much the same routes too. Shallow crossing routes, shallow curl/comebacks, and slow developing deep posts that are never thrown too anyway. He never should have been brought back, and it was a serious red flag when Campbell didn’t hire anyone to be the OC when he left, a sign looking back now that he knew Manning would be back in a year and he could have his job back. Even though the team had the now OC at top 10 Tennessee. Campbell didn’t hire anyone so his best bud could have a spot, even though he’s a ******* clown and doesn’t know **** about running an offense. His numbers overall in his tenure are good because they had two future starting NFL backs and 3 years of a QB who’s in the NFL also. He doesn’t have that now, and what people like I could see all along, is now being seen by everyone.

The adjustments come from the opponents DC....they figure out quickly what our offense play calling is going to be..

I’ve said this same thing for years now under manning. No imagination, no counter offense, no bootleg, soft up front, weak schemes, no successful screen game.
No OL development. Too many false starts- on and on it continues. “Life in the margins”

This is right, it's self full filling if something doesn't change.

They did a rollout and moved the pocket for a nice gain and then NEVER tried again. I feel bad for the OL and QBs. Seems like they get the least amount of coaching for reaching potential.

Look again, Campbell said he has a huge part in the offensive game plan and what not.

So yes, Manning needs to go. But a new OC is not going to change anything unless CMC is willing to let him open it up.

CMC is amazing and I hope he's here for 15-20 years. But he's a conservative coach by nature who wants to play good defense, run the ball and take minimal risks on offense. Which is fine - lots of teams do. But the offense of Iowa State is the offense of Matt Campbell not Tom Manning. Manning calls the plays but he 100% answers to CMC - he was brought up thru the ranks at Toledo by Campbell.

Will a new offensive coordinator help but until this year we had statistically very good offenses.
But a new OC alone isn't going to change things hugely unless CMC wants to change the philosophy.

Also for all the crap Myers gets - its weird to me that we don't even have a full time receivers coach. Scheelhaase coaches botht the running backs and the receivers which seems an odd combination. Typically if you're going to combine you'd have Tight Ends and Receivers or in a similar system Tight Ends and Tackles.

None of this is an excuse for Manning. The Man is more predictable than the Sun rising in the East, doesn't feel the flow of a game well and is more redundant than I am about making long winded posts. All I'm saying is the offenses' problems go well beyond Manning because no Offensive Coordinator stays employed unless they are marching to the beat of the HC

Was our offense any different when Manning was gone? I seem to recall it was not very good that year when we didn't have an OC, but I don't remember for sure.

Not really, no. And that is my point precisely. Manning is the easy target and scape goat and he is certainly deserving of being fired and a big part of the blame. But it goes beyond him.
