No doubt. If it were me I'd love to set up my son for a job when I'm done but I'd think you'd want to find him some success or you might end up screwing him over.

I'm not saying Brian is great at his job but the loss of Chris Doyle is just starting to rear it's ugly head... IMO this isn't getting talked about enough.

Would love to know some stats/analytical grades etc. on how Iowa’s LBs are in coverage.

After rewatching the game Iowa State really took advantage of SEMOs linebackers in coverage and hit a bunch of crossing/underneath routes. With Jestin Jacobs now being ruled out I’m curious as to how good Campbell, Benson and Jacob’s backup are in coverage. We know they are solid against the run but would be interested in hearing some stats/thoughts on how they when forced into coverage.

We didn’t see a ton of deep balls or throws to the sideline against SEMO likely due to how well the short stuff across the middle was working. Moved the ball really efficiently when that was the case.

Without Jacobs, Iowa is likely to run a lot more 4-2-5 and only play 2 LBs with Cooper Dejean coming in and playing what they call the Cash position which is sort of a hybrid LB/safety role. We’ve used that coverage a bunch in recent years so it’s not new. I am disappointed Jacobs is out because I think he’s one of our better players but we have lots of good DBs so the pass defense isn’t something I’m super worried about.

In general I think the big concern for Iowa is #1 can the offense score any points at all and #2 will the defense get worn down if they get no rest and you keep putting them in bad situations over and over.

The balls across the middle tend to be completed at a higher percentage than the sidelines and deep. There really was no need in the SEMO game. Now Iowa may necessitate a higher number of sideline/deep balls...maybe not. You also didn't see much in the way of RB checkoff passes or TE passes...that option remains too. Really depends on what Iowa brings to fight.

That's the NW strategy and it has worked pretty well against Iowa over the years.

Dekkers made a lot of different throws on Saturday. From what I saw out of him last year and on Saturday he will take what the defenses gives but he's not afraid to stretch the field either. IMO if Iowa State sticks with the pass game we have the tools to really frustrate the Iowa defense.
