Mega Millions - 1 BILLION DOLLARS

Did the couple that won the lottery from Bondurant stay local?

There was a group of Quaker Oats workers who won the Powerball a while ago. The Gazette did a few pieces on them, but since then, I haven't heard anything about them. That's not to say people aren't reaching out to them, but they haven't been actively visible.

After the split I don't think they ended up with insane amounts of money. Probably retirement money, but not generational money.

Yeah I want to say it was a few hundred grand each. I think it sped up retirement for some of them but it wasn't like every one of them put in their papers the next day and went to Acapulco. Editing this must be a different group than I am thinking of they split 240 million 20 ways.

Might treat myself to a crop-dusting drone like the one I spotted this afternoon near me. Stopped and talked to the guy. He had a generator on his truck and would charge the battery for seven minutes so the drone would fly for eight. Cost him $30,000.

Why, if I won the billion, I would buy one for everyone on CF. Except for the Cheeto lovers. I would just spray them with the fungicide and then buy my way out of jail like rich people do.

Was the 240 the jackpot?

Yeah so probably like a under 10 million each
Usually around a third to 3/8 is a good number to use for jackpots in that area. So roughly 6-7 million. That kind of tricky amount. Good money, but not something you can go crazy off of. If you just want to continue doing what you are doing, but a little nicer, and not having to work, that would fit. It you want a vacation home and always have nice cars and travel a lot, you better be near retirement already.

I remember arguing with a teacher as a 14 year old high schooler that if she randomly won a million dollars she said she would retire the next day. I said no shot.

Yes a million dollars is amazing but it wouldn’t last you the rest of your life without working. She wasn’t that old, maybe early 40s at most. I guess if she didn’t change her lifestyle one iota, maybe?

I just remember the class being mad at me for saying a million dollars wasn’t that much to live off of the rest of your life. I eventually convinced the teacher to show the guy that won the first “Who wants to be a millionaire” say basically the exact same thing as me and it was eventually dropped.

If I get that lump sum of something like $400 million it would almost be a curse. Kidnapping, lawsuits, and general security would always be on my mind.

I would be hyper local with giving, but I would give almost all of it away. Invest in areas to try and help with employment. Maybe an endowment to pay for local kids who want to attend the local juco or earn a finance degree from ISU.

But I'm sure I won't have the cash....damn lotto

Many people don’t realize that by the time they pay off their house, get the new car you know they will, take a vacation to someplace nicer than they normally would, and then give money to the family members or friends that they feel obligated to, they have severely cut into that amount.
