Is this recruiting class done?

Not that I am a fan of pushing guys out but how cool would it be to have a couple more scholarships to go after 2 more big recruits and essentially have our own "Fab 5?" One of those things you already have one of the best 2023 classes, why not swing for the fences with this momentum and see how many more still left to decide would want to join the 3 we have and make a run at it. Just wishful thinking there obviously but its fun to think of the possibilities with this kind of excitement.

I really hope we go transfer to replace Holmes and Gabe. No more HS kids unless maybe it's a project, a raw big guy or wing with some length. The 23/24 team looks like it will be a bit green, need to use the transfer portal to get old. Only a select group of frosh are going to be ready for the big 12 most seasons, I think Baylor was the only team playing more than 1 last year and they were both highly touted kids (1 and done) that were surrounded by a group of very experienced players.
Seems like kids are starting to flock here too play with and against good talent. Daddy like.

Chatman is a “can go pretty much anywhere he wants” kind of player. If he ends up at Minny, I’d honestly be shocked.
Doing a little more research it appears he has already narrowed it down to Minn, Ohio State, Kansas, Virginia and Xavier.

I would not put it past TJ, however, to not be ready to give up yet.

Eh, that's pretty much a thing of the past.
I think all three of our freshman this year fit that mold. 3-4 stars who are athletic enough to play at this level but unlikely to blow up and transfer or go to the draft in year 1 or 2.

As much as I would love a "fab 5" due to transfer rules a fab-five scenario is likely not the best winning scenario.

You need a mix of solid four-year guys, strategic transfers and freshman blue chippers.

Chatman was a Prohm offer but have shown interest since. I've never seen any evidence of an Otz staff offer.

Not including any transfers OUT we have anywhere from 2-6 scholarships still available. Things are very fluid with 4 guys (Grill, Jones, Ward, Tre King) being eligible to use their extra COVID year.

2023-2024 Scholarship Chart

Freshmen:
Jelani Hamilton (6'6" G - Austell, GA) - COMMITTED
Milan Momcilovic (6'8" F - Pewaukee, WI) - COMMITTED
Omaha Biliew (6'8" PF - Waukee, IA) - COMMITTED

Sophmore:
Tamin Lipsey
Eli King
Demarion Watson

Juniors:

Seniors:
Jeremiah Williams (Eligible for an additional year beyond 2023-2024)
Caleb Grill*
Robert Jones*
Hason Ward*
Tre King*

* - Super seniors who would be using their Covid year in 2023-2024

who among the freshmen this year, and the 3 commitments for next year do we see staying for '4' years. Will it happen in this day and age with any of them?

No, it is not

Oh wow, how interesting. I streamed and watched the championship Peach Jam game the other day, and this kid kept drawing my eyes to him. So I looked him up and it didn't even seem like he was on the map as being recruited. He threw his body around, got good position, hustled, and impressed me. Our coaches must have been too?? Not sure.
(I thought he was taller than 6'6")

Kayden Fish. Not rated, but just got an Iowa State offer. Also plays for Mokan Elite. Dont have much info, but he is a 2023 kid.

Editing to also add that we have 8 seniors on our roster so will have a shakeup after this year.

Way up there
Fish's is really interesting, his highlights are all below the rim plays. How would an unrated kid impact the overall class rating?

Fish is just starting to gain P% interest got a BC offer this weekend and I believe an Xavier one this spring and now the ISU one. He'll get the scouts review and rating soon or if he commits to a P5 team now that he's getting attention.
I would suspect it'll be 3 star/150+ level being so off the radar. Not that'll matters to the staff as they obviously think he'd be a asset to the team but it will lower the ISU composite but any player they add now outside of a top 30 guy would too.

I
We are at a maximum of 10 scholarship players for the 2023-24 if I'm looking at things correctly. That's if Tre King, Grill, and Ward take a covid year of eligibility plus nobody transfers out.

So, definitely not done adding players. Maybe one more freshman, and likely a few transfers.
I think max wise we are sitting at 11. Jones, could stay another as well. (Before you dismiss him, he's a great out of the rotation security piece to have)

If we take a prep I think it would be a flip and would have to be a whale.

Realistically, I think we need another rim protector to split the 5 with Ward. Then the best shooter they can find to compete with Eli, Hamilton and possibly Grill at the 2.

I didn't exclude Watson, he's a 3 and will likely be depth for a Milan, Omaha, T King rotation at the 3/4.

You are always open to a great PG but with Williams, Lipsey and hopefully Freitag in 24 we're sitting pretty good.

I thought Trey Green, Omaha’s Mokan teammate would be someone we’d be in on. I don’t know his relationship with Beliew though.

Edit: looks like he congratulated him a couple times on Instagram. Could be interesting.
