Swaim used to be a good recruiting guy, not sure but sounds like he's supposedly quoting assistant coaches that he has relationships with. It would be like CW using an unnamed assistant ISU coach.

Mhver is a total troll.

I wouldn't believe anything unless The Athletic, Espn, or fox sports reports it as fact.
I wouldnt believe any of them. Those at the bottom are no better than those first 2. They all just fish for clicks.

Keep in the back of your mind that the Pac-12 network, already not meeting expectations, just lost its biggest brand and largest market to the Big Ten. That is really, really bad for a conference keeping virtually all the tier 2/tier 3 content in house and unavailable for sale to other networks.

They are going to have to choose between the survival of their TV network and the survival of the conference in the short term here. There is probably more media money out there getting bids for the PAC if they get rid of Larry Scott's boondoggle, but it is going to look like a spectacular failure when it happens and they are not in a place where a bunch of bad PR is going to be well absorbed.

I think Stanford and maybe even Virginia are not value adds for the B1G. It’s all driven by money.

Maybe Stanford gets BTN on in the Bay Area - I would buy that as plausible, even if carriage fees are not the reason to be expanding in 2022 like they were ten years ago. So then what does Virginia get you? Maryland already got BTN onto cable packages in the DC market, which includes the most populated parts of Virginia.

I’m also skeptical that NC State or Virginia Tech would add to the SEC’s pocketbooks. It is very difficult for a given school to be a value add when the value is so high after it got inflated by bringing in more bluebloods.
I also wonder if the Big 12 would turn down Duke or Ga Tch?

Logic suggests that eventually:
B10 adds UND, Stanford, UNC, UVA.
SEC adds FSU, Clemson, Miami, NC State, V'tech
B12 adds Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Pittsburgh, Louisville.
I think you are pretty close. It may not all be this summer but thats close to the endgame.

Interesting.

The ACC network is going to be expected to profit share with the PAC-12 for broadcasting their games after ACC fans go to bed. I have no idea why the ACC would want to do this. Although it points at PAC wanting daddy ESPN to ride in to save the day.

espn is not going to restructure the ACC deal in any way that shortens the terms. not sure the pac members are really willing to sign a GOR until 2036 or whenever it ends. this is pointless posturing by people too proud to face reality.

they are currently in the bargaining state of grieving

Just read it.
Main take away as I read it is the merger would be the PAC12 Network with the ACC’s. It was first discussed last Friday by the ACC. Infency stage with weeks likely month needed to work out the details and then no one has any idea if it would generate actual money. ESPN is pushing for it to get some if even minimal WC presence (that tells me FOX would want the Big 12/PAC6 plan).

End thoughts… more of a diversion to buy some time than a true plan. Even if the PAC 12 were to try that route it would end poorly.

So the ACC Network would air PAC 12 games that already get aired just on a different network? Talk about a desperate attempt by both leagues.

But the issue with the PAC network was that they didn't have the leverage of ESPN. So putting games on the ACC network forces their games on cable networks and hopefully a bit of cash. Would be interesting to see how much additional cash actually comes from it and how much of that the PAC gets. Seems like they're grasping for pennies when they're short hundreds of dollars to pay their bills.

FOX isn't losing out on the B1G. FOX owns 61% of the BTN and is basically calling the shots, they have the top tier of the next media rights package, what needs to be figured out is who else is at the table (ESPN, CBS, NBC, Amazon, Apple) for the additional rights and what $$$ valuation it comes in at.
But what does owning BTN mean? Innocent question, I would be curious what Fox owns a share of.

Can the Big10 walk away and start a BIG Sports platform and put games on there?

Or does the Big10 have the equivalent of a GOR with Fox past next summer?

I would assume the assets for BTN as basically television broadcasting equipment, studio and Big10 games. And the television equip & studio could just be rented/leased.
